You're probably talking about Thunderwolf Cavalry. Basically they are Marines on Wolves, meaning you have fast-charging cavalry units with a 3+ armour save and all the weapon options of elite Marines. Yeah, it's a tough unit, especially because they are Toughness 5 - Orks will have a hard time against them, definitely.

I charge Ghaz into them, alone he can eat a whole unit. Lootas are very effective too just by forcing saves on them.

Yeha, Ghazgkull on the Waaagh! will mop them up. But he's the only one reliably being able to do so, because of his temporary 2+ invuln save. Wouldn't try the same thing with a normal 4+/5++ Warboss, not even with a Mega-Armour-Boss!

Diversified Nobz eat TWC alive, as does Ghazgkhull, and rokkits put them down handily.

Orks vs Thunderwolves is a case of Rock vs Bigger Rock at first, unless you go for combined-arms tactics; in a pure Nob Biker vs Thunderwolf matchup, Thunderwolves will win point-for-point. They have access to Strength 8 fire support to whittle down your Nobs, they have access to better Invulnerable Saves, and better fire support as a general rule.

So how does one deal with these annoying Wolfstars of Doom? A mix of tactics must be used. Denying them decent charges is one element, by bringing Grots or regular Boyz as sacrifical gits, or parking Warbuggies in front to slow them down. Bringing Kans or Deffrollas helps as well, for extra Strength 10 goodness. Remember though that Kans do not like Strength 10 attacks, so it helps to run a secondary unit to pull attacks; after all, those Powerfists aren't being used to their full potential if being forced to attack a Grot unit...

Of course, bringing strong Loota support to play counter-battery against supporting Long Fangs or Razorbacks, so they don't counter *your* counter to Thunderwolves.

You change your army, is how. If you want to kill TWC with Boyz, you have to pile a TON of boyz into them. I wouldn't expect 30 to cut it, honestly.

There is a way with orks boyz to do it. Concentrate your firepower and pour your shoota boyz into them.

You don't need to kill them with shooting. You just need to knock down enough models with shooting so that they can't dominate you in hth. Then, when you get into hth, volume of attacks will take care of the rest.

Customers ask me what army I play in 40k. Wrong Question. The only army I've never played is orks.

They're I4 so you go second no matter what unless you hit with nobs which is my preference for killing them after softening them as much as possible with some shooting.

All I can tell you is that besides their improved physical attributes (strength, toughness, wounds, attacks), training-wise, they're still normal Marines.

Between Alpha and Omega, and a little to the left

They'll still go down to mass burnas, but other than there's not much in the ork codex that will let you kill them without spending more/the same as they are.
