Do you still get the 5+ save from enchanted shield while using a regular great weapon? Does the bonus still work while slung across your back or would it only save against ranged attacks? Automatically Appended Next Post: I should mention that simple yes or no answers don't help. Please give logic for your answers.

Well in its decription it says it's a shield and that you count its bonus as one higher than a normal shield. I believe you would have to be able to use the item to get the effects, in this case with a great weapon you can't use a shield at the same time so you can't use the item and you don't get the bonus.

I would say no. Its the same reason you cant carry a Dagger of Hotek, Beastmaster's Scourge and a mundane hand weapon to get 2+ to attacks. Since you would need 3 or more arms to use them. (Beastmaster's Scourge can be combined with a mundane hand weapon for +1 attack and the Dagger of Hotek says it may be combined with a
mundane hand weapon for +1 attack)
This was answered in the DE FAQ and I assume it would also work with a great weapon that requires 2 hands to carry and then using a sheild, as the model does not have 3 hands the sheild would be made obsolete.

Obviously, since a great weapon requires 2 hands, the bearer cannot use it at the same time as a magic shield.
The magic shield would still grant a better save against shooting attacks, however.

RiTides, you should know better than GW clarifying obvious rules. I just wanted to know the general consensus.

I thought this was in the rulebook - you cannot use Shields if you are wielding a 2 handed weapon. An enchanted shield is a shield...

This, check pg.75 of the BRB "Requires Two Hands." Basically, the warrior has the two handed weapon slung on it's back or whatever while advancing into the fray. Then, when they reach combat they either drop the shield or sling it on it's back and pull out their two handed weapon for combat.

as an additional aside, dont forget that if you do have a great weapon, you must use it since it is a special weapon. Thus, no chance to switch to the handwep shield combo. You could try a magic weapon however.

how about the Charmed Shield which activates on the first hit the bearer recieves? do you think you need to actually be using the Charmed Shield in combat or does simply being the "bearer" of the item give you the effect?
