Will you let Elfdar Players use Dark Elfdar Halequin rules?
No, absolutely not.
Yes, but only if their entire army is "counts as" Dark Eldar.
Yes, I am fine with letting them replace the terribad Harlequin rules with good one.

So, I have ventured out of YMDC, am scared, so need to make a thread to comfort myself.

With the release of Dark Eldar being confirmed as Soon rather than Soon™ and some pretty solid rumours about Harlequins being updated, will you let normal Eldar players take them to try them out or not?

Yeah, not much going on for me to make such a boring thread I know. :(

Try out the new models or try out the new rules?

Why not? People counts as all the time (a la space puppies / blood angels that look like ghost paint or crimson fists) because the rules are 'better' or more competitive. I'd much rather let them counts as just because they want to try it out =)

It would have to be the same as people do with space marines. Either you take the whole codex or you don't.

If you're using a codex, you should use everything in said codex. Play the hand you're dealt.

^ Yes Squared.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

That's why I said 'no' as I interpreted the question to be using regular Eldar but using what will be the DE rules for Harlies. But I'm completely fine w/ using regular eldar or whatever to test out the new DE codex.

If it's mixing codices, then no. I didn't get that part of the question I suppose. I don't even like the idea of using IA supplements as every codex is balanced well at 1500 points using the unit entries in that codex. Expanding the points of the game considerably, using invented units (even pseudo-official ones) can make the game off-balance. I like skill to decide games, not the freshness of one's units.

If it's just using Eldar harlies as DE harlies in a potentially combined DE/DE Harlie codex, sure. That's counts as.

Generally I feel that you should use the Codex you have, and not min/max from different sources. However, did the Harlequins share the same rules in the Eldar and old Dark Eldar codices? Because then I could see the reasoning behind borrowing the rules from a newer 'dex.

soon still isn't soon enough, trademark or no trademark

as for using the rules assuming there are harlies in there and they have diifferent rules to normal harlies, erm i want to say yes especially if there is a shadow seer but i have to go with no, it's like me a chaos playing using loyalist rules for the termies it just doesn't feel right.

however i'd be ok with them proxying the whole dark eldar codex, "they just haven't gotten the spiky bits yet right?"

and fish is highly tempting, what kind is it?

There aren't any Harlequins in the current Dark Eldar codex.

In friendly games, probably. In tournies, no. They're probably going to be redone before long anyway. Who knows, they might have some Allies rule that allows it anyway.

You know, I might once or twice let an eldar player use dark eldar rules for harlequins. But after they try them out, I'd either want them to be using their eldar to proxy dark eldar to field a dark eldar army or get the models and such for a dark eldar army.
