I'm looking at my dozens of plain plastic bases that came with my box sets and am wondering how some of the really nice bases I'm seeing in some of these threads are done. Is there a selection of really nice premade bases around, or is it mostly just hard work people are putting into them?

Kerr and king http://www.kerrandking.co.uk/ do some very nice resin bases but they do not have the distinctive edges of the battlefront bases which bugs me a bit.

The vast majority of the bases on here are just done with hard work as far as I can tell.

Those Kerr and King bases are really nice, but like legoburner said, I think most people just do their own. You'd be surprised what you can do with just some spackle or putty, sand, rocks, static grass, little bushes and balsa wood. There are a lot of good basing tutorials out there too. I seem to recall Battlefront having a really nice article on desert bases, but they probably have others too.

I've done quite a bit of custom basing for various 40k and Warmachine armies. The thing is, I'm sick of doing it -- I'd rather just buy presculpted bases where possible to save time so I can actually play instead of bogging down in 100+ hours of modeling. Maybe I'll just go the quick route and base with sand and static grass and call it a day.

Most of mine are Kerr and King, but dont let anyone tell you its the easy (or cheap) option.

They are fantastic and very well detailed, so painting them is time consuming, It takes me longer to paint the K&K bases then to paint the figures mounted on them.

Also you will find that BF figures do not fit into the holes on K&K bases, so lots of work goes there to make them fit.

The end results justify the work though.
