I'm making most of my "Special" individuals in my army such as sergeants, I want to give them a military style hat such as the one in this link:

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_041AB286000P?vName=Workwear%20&%20Uniforms&cName=Women'sWorkwear&sName=Accessories&sid=IDx20070921x00003a&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=041AB286000P

I know I'd need GS, but do you think there are any "Shortcuts" I could take to cut down on time. (Not quality)

Secondly, I want to give my "SWAT" Type troops Balaclavas, I' not sure how to make them, GS might look a bit awkward since it is a pretty large thickness.

Balaclavas are... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:20070102_per_erik_strandberg_balaclava_1.jpg

And LASTLY, If I don't use the Creed model, does that mean I can't use him? I wanted to use a custom model as my general, but still use Creed's stats. Would that be a problem? (Sorry about posting it here but I figured I would combine my 3 questions into one so that it doesn't flood the forum.)

Thanks,

It shouldn't be a big deal to custom build your own IC for friendly games. Just as long as you let your opponent know what all counts as what before hand. Tournament games are a different story though, might not work there.

As for the hats, you might be able to make some kind of a mold. Sculpt one or two hats the way you want, then make a mold out of them.

So long as the figure is Creed's size and has Creed's equipment and you tell your opponent that "this here model counts as Creed", you shouldn't have any problems.

Take a regular cadian or catachan head, and chop down the helmet/hair and bandanna. This should take 2 GS steps, one for the cylinder part of the hat, and a second for the brim/ears. Should be a pretty easy conversion, and shouldn't take much time (indeed, you will be spending much more time doing something else waiting for the GS to cure than actually making the hats themselves).

Once again, chop down a head. You could either then do everything in a thin coat of GS, or you could actually be really careful with how you chop down the head, and you might be able to get away with just GSing the face instead of the whole head.

In the guard codex, GW actually encourages you to do just this. I have a marshall named "Rhamael Theleos" where "rhamael" is an anagram of "al rahem". Furthermore, you could do the reverse and use the creed model as just a generic senior officer. So long as it's clear to your opponent what models are capable of doing what, then there shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks for such a great response!

I will try both of those steps, and I was wondering if I could use the rules for creed not the model, I would probably use a custom model at the company commander. But Creed is just to good to give up, I would be willing to use his model + stats if I could use him under a different name legally.

You can actually get separate heads with balaclavas from a variety of miniature producers, some of them are even in a scale close to GW's "28mm" (which is different from everyone else's 28mm).

Only have one link, but it's a local company (for me, anyway) and I keep in touch with him.

without helmet

and with helmet

http://eurekamin.com.au/product_info.php?products_id=2101

These are from their SWAT 28mm line.

There are a few other lines I've seen and heard of, but have no actual experience with or where they came from.
