Hi all,
Let me start off by saying I don't want to make my own. I know I can, but my woodworking skills are shameful and to be honest I have a million other things to do with my time. Which is my whole reason for wanting a portable painting and hobbying station. I normally just sit at my desk and hobby, but I work from home. I want to get out of my office, and hang out with the family. I'd like to get something kinda slick, portable with a good amount of workspace and storage. I'm eyeing the GW ones, but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.
And for all you handy hobbyists, you've built your own? Show me pics, I'll probably commission someone for a cool piece as well. I know when I was in a band or doing tech gigs, I had my own personalized case. Something like that, I could get into. We can talk specifics.
Thanks Dakka!

I like the GW one.
It was accessible when I bought it, has a good amount of space, plus upright holders which fit all the brushes. Some say it might be a little on the large side, but I've found it will hold all my paints, my current projects et al, and be neatly stuffed atop my wardrobe until the next painting sesh.

My shoebox holds about 50+ paint pots/bottles, brushes, a cutting mat, palette, paper towels, and any models I happen to be painting at the moment. I ferry it to work and home since I can get away with painting on the job and use it to keep my paint pots from being all over the place. It keeps them nice and organized; I remove only one or two at a time, and I've memorized where each shade is so I can grab them without looking. It fits nicely into my desk drawer or on a bookshelf.
All that being said, if you'd like a portable workstation, a pochade box is pretty nice, but are traditionally made to store small canvases/tiles as well your paint supplies. You're likely to find a few very nice models online and expect to pay an army's worth on them. Check your local hobby/craft stores for art supply boxes for an economical alternative, but I'll stick to my free shoebox.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

Also, I have seen kitchen spice racks used quite effectively to store large paint collections along a wall, freeing up valuable desktop space.
