This is a 1500 point army with a look to expanding it into 2k+ in the future.

I will be facing Brets, Lizards and Dark Elves. But I really want this list to be able to face anyone and have a chance of winning.

---------------------------------------------------

Plague Priest
- Mage level 2, Flail, Plague Furnace

30x Plague Monks
- Musician, Standard Bearer, Storm Banner

Chieftain
- Battle Standard Bearer

28x Clanrats
- Shield, Musician, Standard Bearer
- + Warpfire Thrower Team

30x Clanrats
- Shield, Musician, Standard Bearer
- + Poisoned Wind Mortar

30x Clanrat Slaves

30x Clanrat Slaves

Doomwheel

4 x Rat Ogres
- 2 Packmasters

---------------------------------------------------

This is what I have so far. Please let me know if you think this can be competitive as I would like to have a go at some tournaments in the future.

My main concern is that I don't really have any way to deal with war machines quickly. But if I lose numbers in order to fit in some Gutter Runners I feel that im weakening the core of the army. :S

I'm hoping the storm banner will help that.

Thanks all.

EDIT: I am now thinking about changing the list and removing the weapons teams to allow me to include a Warp Lightning Cannon. Do you think this would allow me a more powerful shooting phase? The weapon teams seem expensive to me but I could be wrong. Please comment.

I think it's a fairly solid list, the storm banner will work quite well for you with this list as you don't have much that will be effected on your side.

The warp lightning cannon might not be a bad idea, it has longer range and might get you shooting sooner plus (without actually having tried it myself) it seems like it would get hits a little more reliably then the weapon teams, or at least more so then the PWM which in the couple skaven games I've played I have yet to see hit more then itsself.

Mortars are AWESOME. I can't get enough of that wonderful stuff.

At 1500 pts you got a 375 rare budget, so really you need to look at 1 maybe 2 war machines. Personally I think gutter runners are worth every point as you can have all of them shoot, with slings (2x) from their butt with poison attacks, and when that fails charge them from the rear and just clean up.

Some other food for thought:
-making the Rat Ogres 5 models with a 3x2 form.
-putting engineers in them slave units
-giving the plague priest a censer (big ol base to test off of)
-down grading the clanrats to slaves (you can shoot into slave units and with a Eng they have a good LD)
-lose the Doomwheel and swap for HPA
-swap the move or fire, random warpfire for the move and fire scatter mortar for pts savings

Thanks for the replies guys. It's good to know I am at least on the right track.

I will answer some of Uktabi's points below...

Uktabi wrote:making the Rat Ogres 5 models with a 3x2 form.

I have thought about this and it might be a good idea. The only issue is that I would need to free up the 40 points. If I was going to free up 40 points I would probably try to add a Warplightning Cannon.

Uktabi wrote:putting engineers in them slave units

Another good idea but I dont have the points left in Heros. I am about maxed out due to the Plague Priest and Furnace and the Chieftan with Battle Standard.

Uktabi wrote:giving the plague priest a censer (big ol base to test off of)

I have been told that this is a bad tactic as you are simply going to cause more wounds on your own unit as well. A normal Flail is a good and cheap option for the Priest and doesnt kill your own dudes.

Uktabi wrote:down grading the clanrats to slaves (you can shoot into slave units and with a Eng they have a good LD)

Good idea. I think I will downgrade one unit of Clanrats and end up with 3 Slave units and 1 Clanrat unit. I will place the Chieftan in the Clanrat unit.

Uktabi wrote:lose the Doomwheel and swap for HPA

I have the model already so im going to use it. At 2k I will add a HPA though.

Uktabi wrote:swap the move or fire, random warpfire for the move and fire scatter mortar for pts savings

Good idea. In the one Clanrat unit I will field I will use the mortar. It looks great.

Thanks again for all the help. I will post a new list today at some point for you to look at.

Cheers.

This is a question more for my own list building then yours but are you running your slaves 5x6 or 6x5?

I will be running my slaves 5x6 (5 wide with 6 ranks).

I do this because my slaves are there to hold up units and "tarpit" them until either the ogres, monks+furnace, or Doomwheel can flank them. Therefore It is more important for me to have more ranks in order to get a good leadership from SiN + Generals Leadership + Battle Standard re-roll.

In short. The more ranks I have the more chance I have of holding for an extra turn.

I was under the impression that when you added an Engineer to a Slave unit, you could not longer fire into their CC as the combat no longer includes only skavenslaves?

I think that you are correct. That is another reason I am not using them like that. When you include a Furnace and a Battle Standard Bearer there is really no room for any more Heros in 1500 points anyway
