Here are my questions: Just wondering how it plays? Anything like 40k or no? If you like it, if so why? If you don't like it why? Is it hard to base/paint seems like it would be and is it as expensive as 40k is to build a decent sized army. Thanks to any help!

I like the rules, considerably more balanced than 40k (All infantry has 3+ save), and the cost I would say depends on what list you want to make. My $40 Fallschirmjager box came with 600 points, while if you wanted to play Soviets you'd probably be spending a bit more.

I'm not a huge fan of Battlefront but FOW is a solid rule set.
It plays smoothly, Ive yet to come across a sticking point in the rules, it plays fast (with a little practice) and (more by luck then judgment) it does give a really good feel for the period.

The key in my opinion is to use the rule set but not the army lists, at best they are good as a very rough guideline. Battlefront has switched on to the fact that tournaments are a big thing right now and have used these lists and points values in general to cash in on this. To us experienced, older WW2 gamers this is anathema.

If you are used to painting 28mm, 15mm can be a challenge. Its not any harder, its just very different. In some ways it is easier, you will find that painting a couple of hundred figures far quicker but you will also find fine detail harder. They are far more forgiving. Its important to find a style and a rhythm to suit you. Basing can be as hard or easy as you want to make it, exactly like 40k.

Cost...... Mmmmm. Lots of good deals on ebay and internet sellers can keep cost down alot and remember YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BUY BATTLEFRONT FIGURES TO PLAY FLAMES OF WAR, this ain't Games Workshop. There are dozens of WW2 figure makers out there and BF do not always have the best for the price available.

As Powerslave said it will depend on the army you choose but on average you should be spending alot less.

The Lieutenant is a Punk! And a pretty 2nd rate Punk at that.......
