I'm looking to ... *nearly* duplicate the "Cleaved" paint job on page 68 of the Codex:CSM. I'll be fielding some Plaguers in my army, but some regular CSM and KhorneBs as well. -- not cohesive, nor well-themed, I admit.

Anyway.

So, neither the standard CSM nor the KhorneBs will have the indicators of rot and plague (weeping eye-sockets and armor joints), but I'd like the armor colors to be close. I know I could easily just have a white, pink, or pale green (Rotting Flesh) base/foundation/initial color for them, and then just add the ... weeping eye-sockets and armor joints for the PMs.

The PM models do have greenstuff conversions of burst intestines and marred shoulder pads, etc.

But, there are smarter, more creative painters/hobbyists than I out there, so I'm looking to gets some input and insights.

Start with white primer and then ... ?

The cleaved don't have the whole "guts hanging out and I look like I'm pregnant: look. I would steer away from that and instead try to use a dark green paint ink that could make their "wounds" look like their oozing as they have done.

I've sold so many armies. :(

It's all in the paint. I'd look up some Deathwing bone tutorials for the armor, and some varying colored, slightly transluscent inks for the ooze coming from their armor.

Err. Forgive my ignorance, but which inks would those be? I don't know them from the GW washes or inks.

I don't mind getting "talk-down to" like I'm a nooB painter. I've painted for a few years, but would still say I'm a novice at it.

Thanks for the DW tutorial, Ordo Dakka. I even read it.

I'd started with DW some years back ... they're painted as something else now.

Lemme add something:

After a bit of thought, I'd like to combine the sickly greens & ... light-tans (wouldja call some of it ... tan? pus-yellow?) of the Death Guard paint job, but a lesser degree of smudgy mottling of their armor.

Anybody have a good idea of how to achieve that 'cleaved' pink? What combos & process?

I'm the opposite of 'gifted' when it comes figuring out what's-what with color schemes and how achieve them.

The weeping eye-sockets & armor seals are last (correct?), but what gets the shiny color? A gloss black? Any brand-name recommendations?

While the DW link is nice for process, it doesn't help with which colors to use to achieve the sickly look. Anybody else?

Wow, Someone else that want to use the Cleaved Marines!
That is awesome!
I use my Cleaved Marines as my Nemesis force for my White Iron Marines.

As for white Primer, Yeah, then use your choice of washes. a mix of green and rusty colors works well. Me, I used a black primer because I like my guys to be darker then normal, well all my models are black primed, but that is by choice.

I field a completely fearless army with them, and my Bazerkers are just painted a different legion/traitor chapter. same with my possesded marines. but the overall theme is cleaved.

If you wanted to give a bazerker some boils and stuff that would be cool, just dont know how the story would turn out, but none the less a puss ridden blood loving cc unit would be cool to see chopping up your enemies.

We refuse to take sides in this anymore. And we refuse to let you turn us against one another. We know who we are now, we can find our own way between order and chaos...

It's over because we've decided it's over. Now get the hell out of our galaxy! Both of you.

The Cleaved caught my eye on a browse of Lexicanum a while back. I don't think they are Nurgle but just have a chaotic affliction of oil-like blood seeping from their armour.

Will be nice to see an army of them.
