**Synister_Intent**

I am a new player and I was recently given a necron army from a friend. It consists of the following"

40 Warriors
3 Destroyers
1 Tomb Spider
5 Immortals
1 Wraith
8 Scarab Swarms
Necron Lord with Staff of Light

I need help adding to this army to give it more power, what additions do you all suggest I pick up and add to it?

The Codex if you don't have it already.

From my limited experience playing against 'crons, get a few more Destroyers or Heavy Destroyers, they ate my boyz and my Trukks too quickly for my liking. Also a Monolith is also a good choice due it its inability to die, not sure points-wise if it is that good, but I couldn't stop the thing.

Nightbringer or Deciever aren't too bad, not competitive, but fun for just stuffing around with fun uber units.

Max out the Wraith squad, get at least 1 Monolith, get another unit of destroyers/heavy destroyers, a destroyer lord to go with the wraiths for some CC fun.

Destroyers go a long way, leave the heavy destroyers at home and play 2 monoliths, the deciever is more competative then the nightbringer and i think the C'tan are competative at 2k.

Well while I am still learning how to play I am only battling my friends army of Dark Angels, and advice on units for this kind of opponent?

If it's only DA, go with Destroyers. Wipe him off the board.

I tried using my destroyers to damage him but as he put it, DA are Plasma cannon heavy and he kicked my ass.

the one golden rule for necrons is always take 2 units of models with the WBB rule that way if one gets wiped out they still get their 4+ roll this goes doubly for destroyers I tend to run 3 groups of 3

Im not a wraith fan however, its just too easy to kill them sure they have a 3+ invulnerable save but masses small arms fire will cut right through that they are just too fragile and dont pack a good eough punch for their points

5 more destroyers, 2 Monoliths and a C'Tan of any flavor(I personally like the Nightbringer, YMMV) and you've got a pretty decent list.

At 2000 points I usually run:

Nightbringer(c'mere, Thunderwolves!)
Lord with Veil of Darkness, Res Orb

10 Warriors
10 Warriors
10 Warriors

4 Destroyers
4 Destroyers
10 Scarabs with Disruption Fields

Monolith
Monolith

That said, why don't you try making a list of what you think would be good with the models you have and let us take a look at it?

What kind of army do you want to make?

Indeed.

I don't see how a Necron army could be competitive without one. The army's main problem is that it bends over to an angry Guardsman in CC, and the C'Tan go a long way in helping with that.

i agree, i always like fielding my c'tan gods, funny thing is it makes most armys not come to me thus saving my necron warriors from getting combat raped.

3 Monoliths. Monoliths are pretty much the greatest tactical advantage you have when you use them right.

Also, wraiths aren't really useful unless you get at least 6 of them running together, with a D lord w/ warscythe in my exp.

There are 4 units with necrons that are effective to spam:

Monoliths
Destroyers
Wraiths
Immortals.

Once you have maxed out one, two or more of these, get other supports units (Pariahs, Tomb Spyders, Flayed ones, C'Tan etc)

Less than 2500 pts, i wouldn't even consider takign more than 20 warriors
