Hey everyone,

We will be hosting our normal 'Second Saturday' GW tournament in two weeks on Saturday, October 9. Hopefully this time there's enough notice so everyone who wants to come can clear the time!

On the 40k side, we'll be continuing with the streamlined, 'thumbs-up/thumbs down' format for scoring with 20 Battle Points possible each round. This has been going very well and I see no reason to change what's working. The last couple months have been super smooth events, starting promptly and ending with plenty of time for everyone to go have their Saturday night.

For Fantasy Battle, we will be ready to run at 2500 points; Fantasy has been in a bit of a fog lately, but we will be ready to go if people show up!

For both events, we will be running 3 rounds starting at 10:00am, with a $10 entry (or $20 GW purchase). There will be prizes for Best Overall, Best General, Best Sportsman, and Best Army. Prizes are awarded in GW product of the winner's choice.

I have been considering the idea of shifting the prize payouts from 90-20-20-20 to 60-30-30-30, or possibly 75-25-25-25. What do you guys think? I want to bring up what the Best General/Army/Sportsman take home, but it has to come out of the Overall prize.

The schedule will stick as closely as possible to the following:
9:00am - 10:15 - check-in, sign-up, event preamble, pairings
10:15am - 12:30pm - Round 1
12:30 - 1:00 - Lunch
1:00 - 3:15 - Round 2
3:30 - 5:45 - Round 3
6:00 - Winners announced

It all goes down at Game Empire Pasadena
2302 E. Colorado Blvd.
Pasadena, CA. 91107
626-304-9333
www.gameempirepasadena.com

Finally, if anyone out there is interested in being available as a 'ringer' for the at least the first round or two, I would be very appreciative and spiff you accordingly. Basically, you'd pay no entry fee, only have to play for the first round or two as your schedule permits, and get some swag in exchange for making sure the odd man has an actual game, instead of just free points. And if we get a even number of players, you'd be free to bail as you see fit.

If you have any comments or questions, let me know here or give a call to the store, and hopefully I'll see you there!

Looks good for me being able to go, no commitment though . Why not do 80,30,20,20 for payout?

These events are always great, well run, fun, and draw an excellent crowd with minimal attendance by TFG . If you've never played a tournament at GE before I highly recommend it . Hope to see some of you there!!

I'll be there. I also like the $75-25-25-25. $20 just doesn't actually get you anything but paints or a blister. $5 does make a tiny difference since you can pick up a lot of standard troop boxes for that cost. Is 40k still 2k? Thanks!

I agree; I want Overall to still be a big deal, but at $20 the other places are basically only getting their entry back and lunch paid for, which kinda sucks. I like a 75/25 split, though. Final details forthcoming, but it will be in that ballpark.

40k is still 2000 points. That's the sweet spot where all the armies can breathe in my opinion, and I haven't had any problems with time (the tournaments have been running smoother and quicker lately, in fact), so it's where we're going to stay until Dark Eldar break the game and we all have to start playing Kill Teams!

Awesome! Not sure if it'll be my Nidz, Daemons, Orks, or SW's on the 9th but I'll be there Might even bring all of them and roll a dice before we start the tourney

If you can give me a notice on fantasy players who signup or give a headsup that they will be attending I'll bring a few guys. Just don't want to make the drive from Riverside and have to hang out at The Hat lol.

Well, the Hat would totally be worth it (though for pastrami I prefer Canter's but that's a little farther! )

I have put the word out that there's folks interested in playing some WHFB, and I will post here any confirmations I get.

I'm interested in the WHFB, but I just got back into warhammer and my army doesn't have enough core for a 2500 list.

I may find the money for another battalion, but they definetly won't be painted in a week =)

Painting's only one part of the score. If you can cobble your minis together in time and want to come down, let us know! I'd rather have a WHFB tournament than not, even if that means we have some bare plastic on the tables.

Unfortunately you'll have to pull me off the list. Family I see once a year at most is coming in on Friday and it's family get-together day on Saturday so I won't be able to attend. Hopefully in November I'll see you guys!

We got 3-5 guys from Riverside coming for WHFB and possibly a friend who frequents the new Duarte GW store. We're bringing our fun armies so none of ours (except maybe 1) will be painted so you'll definately see some bare plastic =). Don't worry about the paint too much, come and have a good time and lets throw down some fantasy =)

No worries Hulk, maybe next time I'll finally get to see those Exodites!

I've put the word out to get some WHFB players, so with the Riverside crew we should be fine for a Fantasy side to the tournament.

See everyone Saturday!

What percentage of the overall score does painting comprise?

Should be there with 1 or two other guys for the 40k side.

Darrian:

Out of about 90 points (not including votes), painting counts for a max of 9. So, about 1/10th of your score is painting. The lion's share of points are Battle Points, followed by sportsmanship points, then painting, then comp, in order of weight. Player Favorite voting could theoretically add 11 points if you got all the votes possible from every opponent; in practice voting usually accounts for an extra couple of points for each player.

I really should look into paying someone to paint my models. Anyone know a good painting service?

If your looking for high end painting my buddy Fernando can help you out. He's out of San Bernadino. It's not cheap and it's not fast though. I can account for that lol.

Fantasy turnout was good and prize support was greatly appreciated =). 40k had a huge turnout and was surprised at the overall diversity of army builds. Orks and Lizardmen for the win =P

Sorry Travis for losing my cool in game 3. 8th edition brought more arguments than happiness haha.

Thanks again and see you later this month or next.

No worries man, I totally understand. Hopefully I'll see you on the 23rd. I'm glad we finally got models on the table for WHFB so I can start to develop some (small, granted) perspective on competitive 8th ed. Total turnout was 17 40k, 7 WHFB. It was a great and hectic day, and I hope everyone had a good time.

for 40k, Darrian's Orks took Overall with Battlewagons of DOOM! ; Space Wolves took the painting prize, IG got Best General, and CSM was best Sport.

for WHFB, Skaven took Overall-all, Dark Elves got Best Painting, Chaos Warriors took Sport and Dr. Piece's Lizards took Best General.

We'll be doing it again next month on the 13th, so mark your calendars (and expect some significant changes to the WHFB format)!

Thanks to everyone who came out, see you next month!
