commencing rant

really?! dawn of war? God I hate that senerio with a passion, it seems like when they were writing the book the people thought it would be a great idea to mess with armies who's shooting is their only strong point! My railguns are pretty much useless on turn 1, the time I need them to come alive!

/rant, whew that felt good...

Well, we placed the objectives pretty evenly with 3 in terrain on corners on the board (we will call them obj 1, 2, and 3), one terrain in the open to my left side ( 4) and one in some forest on dixon's middle (5).

I placed my commander towards the middle of the board, as far foward as possible. I had my kroot inflitrating and FWs in reserve.

Dixon countered with a squad of rangers in cover on 1. And his wraithguard on obj 5

Really nothing to say here, I'm just going to hope to put my pathfinders in a good spot and start stripping away cover saves on turn 2.

Tau turn 1:

My forces roll on,

my hammerheads (HH1 and HH2) move to either side of obj 3 in my left deployment zone. D1 drops my pathfinders in the obj 3 ruins. Broadsides lumber into the ruins that are near obj 2. My suits teams 1 + 2 hide behind the hammerheads with team 3 behind the woods on my side (opposite of obj 5). My piranha turbo boosts towards obj 5 to discourge people from coming over there

With nothing better to do my commander takes a shot at the rangers and actually kills one much to Dixon's chagrin.

My suits just get into better postions and my commander jumps into the forest and passes DTT ok.

Dixon Turn 1:

They're coming...

Dixon turbo boosts his falcons (1 and 2) w/ fire dragons inside, up to the middle of the field and trails his wave serpent behind, following the serpent carrying the seer council with eldrad and yriel. His wraithguard start to make a conga line towards obj 4.

no real shooting here as nothing can see me.

no assualts

Luckily I've expected this and brought the pathfinders, I hope to light one falcon to take it down and hopefully immobilize the other to take the fire dragons out of the action. I also have to start moving to destroy those wraithguard and pathfinders, his only troop units.

Tau Turn 2:

My kroot and foot FW squad come on, wanting to get into the fight Luckily the kroot come in near the rangers, and they will be in assualt range next turn. The FWs jump into D1. I move my HHs back to get away from those meltas and jump my suits out to take out their contents. Broadsides continue to lumber to get into a better shooting postion. My piranha moves behind the hill in the middle of the field

Shooting starts out with 2 markerlights hitting the left falcon (1) and the broadsides forgot to switch in their real rounds before the battle as they only manage to take out the lance and shake it... however the hammerheads came to play and wreaked falcon 2 and the dragons jump out, passing pinning. The rest of my shooting does go so well with only 1 wraithguard and 2 dragons dieing.

During assualt my suits move into cover behind the vehicles my commander continues to hide in the woods

Dixon turn 2:

His serpent jumps out from behind the falcons and turbo boosts towards the obj 3 ruins. falcon 1 moves up and dumps out the dragons in front of my hammerhead, within melta range . His wraithguard continue to conga, and his wraithlord continues its advance up the field. His dragons 2 move up the hill in the middle of the field

During his shooting he blows up my HH2. His rangers try to pin some kroot, but fail...ouch

Nothing in assualt

Can't say I didn't see this coming, but nothing I can't handle, I just have to hope that I can get some marker light hits on his serpent and blow it up, but i doubt it so might as well try to soften the blow when his council jumps out

Tau turn 3:

My other FW squad wisely stays put off of the field

My commander get out of cover to flame some dragons, team 1 moves towards the back corner and try not to look threatening. Team 2 moves to the right of the field, towards the hill, doing so 1 takes a wound from dangerous terrain. Team 3 moves to the right of the hill to start chipping away at the wraithguard. D1 manages to immoblize itself in terrain....great. Piranha moves to get itself into the back arch of the falcon.

During shooting I immobilizae the falcon and flame 4 dragons , However, even with markerlight support my broadsides can't cut it and don't do anything (that I can remember to the wave serpent. team 3 takes out another 2 guards and dixon is starting to have trouble conga lining them now.

During assualt my team 1 backs up farther and team 2 and 3 move closer to the wraithguard. And my kroot eat the pathfinders in close combat, consolidating onto the obj 1.

Dixon turn 3:

His serpent disgorges his seer council near my HH1 and yriel goes by himself, off to eat some suits. the serpent decides to tank shock the pathfinders and makes them run....2 inches.

During shooting he throws some spears at the hammerhead and immobilizes it and takes off a railgun. His remaining fire dragons (the other 1 ran away) ID the commander

In assualt he wipes the suits with yriel after he got an amazing fleet roll through cover, god I hate eldar...he consolidates towards the council.

By now I already have given up the left flank and reveal my master plan, to not care. Dixon has been having so much fun slaughtering every thing their to realize it is in fact an obj mission. So now all I have to do is neuter his mobilty and he'll have no way to take my objectives on the right. Taking out those wraithguard would be cool as well.

Tau Turn 4

My D2 firewarriors come in now and park their fish near the broadsides, ready to capture obj 2.

My piranha zooms away towards team 3 to get away from eldar shooting and to prepare itself for the turn 5 obj contest. teams 2 and 3 move towards the wraithguard, team 2s movement into DT sees another suit wounded. D1 tries to look destroyed

Crisis shooting seeing the wraithguard losing 3 members, including the shadowseer, now dixon only has 1 obj held. Broadsides take a wound off of the wraithlord

Assualt moves see the suits move farther up

Eldar Turn 4

Dixon moves his remaining wraithguard close to the Falcon 2 wreak and tries to hold obj 4. The lord moves closer to my lines. The council moves towards D1, didn't see that one coming... His serpent tank shocks 24 inches into team 2 and they make ld ok

Shooting sees D1 harponed like the fish it is, exploding and wounding yriel and eldrad! and taking out 2 FWs. The wraithlord opens up on team 2 and reduces them to the team leader, who makes ld.

The council mopes up the FWs in combat, surprise surprise

Now my left flank is truely destroyed, no big deal though, I'm ready to pounce on obj 5 with the piranha, giving me 2 to his 1. On another note, that serpent has to go, luckily I know some broadsides that have been just dieing to blow something up this game...

Tau turn 5

D2 moves onto obj 2, securing it for the Greater Good. My piranha moves to contest obj 5 while team 3 moves even closer to Dixons dwindling wraithguard. team 2's team leader goes into terrain ok.

Suit fire reduces the wraithguard to 3 near obj 4. Broadsides score their first kill and wreak the serpent

Dixon turn 5

Nothing happening really, he shoots pretty much everything at team 2's leader who passes cover ok, then he mind war's it and it beats eldrad out with a 6, wo0t!

Tau turn 6

I move the piranha to contest obj 4 and take down the wraithguard to a lone member.

At this point Dixon conceded and I won with 2 objectives to none!

Great game by Dixon who hasn't played 40k for few weeks, I just got lucky that he didn't bring more troops or I would've been in for a grittier fight in the end.

After the battle we were talking and it seemed like that the plan in the beginning was to completly destroy my side of the board with his fragons and council while holding his objectives with his rangers and wraithguard. If I was able to take an objective he would just move flat out to contest it.

However it didn't pan out as he didn't expect my kroot to come in ontop of his rangers and ate them. Once that happened I knew that I had to get his units out of their transports/ destroy all of his transports so that they couldn't contest mine and move to the right. He saw this on turn 4, but by then I had popped almost all of his transports while mantaining and good amount of my own. He just had to hope that his wraithguard could hold the objective in his woods.

I generally deploy broadsides and long ranged support on a vantage point far back, and use my fire warriors to defend them. But I like your maneuverable army approach, impressive technique.
