Dark elves have already received their upgrade lately so I doubt that you will see any new models for them being released soon.

To be honest though I like metal models better. Makes them feel more sturdy and sure as hell makes my wallet feel better knowing the price is high because it is metal not because they are robbing me horribly.

upgrade? They got a new hydra and new cold ones. Characters don't count as an upgrade. They are due for plastic elite infantry like the rest of the game.

As said, Cold Ones and Corsairs were recently updated to detailed plastics. There are rumours about a second wave including the chariot and Dark Riders, maybe a dragon with Malekith, but that's it ATM.

6 months isn't a big deal. Now if you said 12 months it'd be uncool.

Off the top of my head Dark Elves need plastic elites, chariot, dark riders, new harpies, better warriors and a plastic bolt thrower even though no one takes them anymore. A plastic sorceress and general kit would be nice too.

I disagree I think the elites need to remain metal. Maybe even change back some of the plastic conversions.

Then you're the only one who thinks so and I have to vehemently disagree, especially after getting to see the Dragon Princes in person today when my boxes arrived.

I may be the only one here but it does bring the argument of, 'Just because your group likes it, doesn't mean it is best"

It's subjective to taste, for the most part. But this isn't really a case of that. Compare the detail on the new White Lions to the old, or the new Greatswords to the old metals.
Oh, and also?
There's the argument of "Being different just to be difficult".

It really is, they can do the same detail to new metal models as well. It doesn't have to be plastic to get that sort of detail, it is easier however for them.

There is that argument, but it doesn't apply here as I am being honest with my opinion that I like the metal miniature better. Sure they could use some more detail but as I stated I feel like I am getting my money worth with them and they feel more hardy and reliable.

How is it "easier" for them to do plastics?

It's actually far harder, since they have to worry about things just coming out as big plastic blobs if they get too finnicky with the details.

Its easier because Plastics are much more mailable, are set at lower pressures and temperatures and the casts after been perfected can use plastics that after setting do not alter under heat (Heat resistant) or they can keep the same forms of plastic and if it comes out as a blob it is much easier to melt down and recast.

They are also cheaper to ship because of the weight loss. It is much easier and cheaper for companies to get and work with materials such as plastics as compared to metals.

But that is not the point. The point is they could do the same detail on either material and it comes down to preference and price alone.

I am on the same boat atm with the dark eldar.
If the wait is longer then 2-3 months I would advise just buying the models you want. Half a year is a long time to put off having fun lol.

I'd say buy now as there is no rumor of new plastics on the way.

As for plastic vs. metal: the ONLY models that need to be released in metal anymore are special characters. The advent of kits like the Empire and High Elves generals and mages makes metal commanders obsolete and kits like Empire Greatswords and the new Dragon Princes show that equal or better detail is possible in plastic and often(not always) at lower price.

Plastic is only more expensive for initial setup, but most dies don't need to be retooled for a long while as opposed to molds for metal casting, which also has to be done by hand in small batches. Injection molding machines run 24/7 and are fully automated. Add to that the Chinese labor on plastic injection models against the British labor of hand casting metal models. Pennies on the Pound.

Buy the first and 2nd rank and then just use empty bases as fillers.

Plastic sprues are not so much easier to produce then metal casts but they are easier/faster to produce at have volumes, you can really pump them out quick once you have your settings down.

As for the new dark elves even if they don't have new ones coming out for a while there are the new dark eldar and those might be good for converting over to dark elves.
