The entry says they must take 3 weapons/support systems. Then it says they may take additional items from the battlesuit wargear list, including Special Issue. So they are granted Special Issue wargear from the battlesuit wargear, but not elsewhere? The sentence for Battlesuit Wargear is the only time Special Issue is mentioned. A straightforward interpretation would say they get Special Issue battlesuit wargear, but not weapons or support systems, yeah?

They can take everything a regular Crisis Suit Shas'ui can take PLUS Special Issue gear/ the hard wired stuff.

If you check page 25 of the Tau Empire codex; you will find the rules for Special issue wargear. It is a special note underneath the points costs of the weapons and gear, wherein it tells you that only models that specifically allow Special issue Gear can take Special Issue Gear.

Straightfoward interpretaion needs to read the first half of sentence where it tells you you can take special Issue items; you know the part that says "additional items".

The Bodyguards may have any standard weapons and the Special issue Weapons(because they are allowed Special Issue); and can take any Support items, including Special Issue. Then may take additional items, again including Special Issue.

Well, ok. I was just wondering if anyone had interpreted it the same way. I hadn't even considered it until I reread it last night. Perhaps I was reading too much into it.
