Just bought this on ebay for the heck of it. Buddy told me it has deff marines I never heard of that and dark eldar. I can't find anything on that. I did come across a ad in White Dwarf 263 and it showed a dread, 3 speeders, 3 rhino frames (i don't know anything about marines yet) and some marines but the marines are at the bottom of the page almost cut off with some that are. Can anyone shed some light on this, I'm a bit anxious waiting on this, may start playing marines since I have a small collection already.

May have over paid but if the items are still on the sprue it may just be worth it as it went for 74.99 in 01.

That's the 3rd edition starter box. If I remember correctly it contained 10 Space Marines, a Space Marine Landspeeder, 20 Dark Eldar Warriors and a some scenery sprues.

Awesome thanks, well it will be worth it then I have some eldar and may just paint them up as dark if I ever play them. The marines will be good to expand my marines and terrain is always nice to have.

Well the marines are a proper tactical squad box set but the only options you'll get are a flamer, missile launcher and bolt pistol + CCW for the sergeant. The land speeder is also an old version but it's still a useful model, just don't expect Typhoon or Tornado parts.

The Dark Eldar are obviously the old models, but with the new codex and models coming out soon they're not a bad buy at all and would form a nice start to a DE army.

The scenery isn't really that good you get a few of the old trees and a small ruin. The ruin isn't too bad but compared to the scenery that GW sell these days it will show it's age.

For $40 I'd say you got a good deal.

Good buy! The Tactical squad alone is worth the $40 you spent. I have fond memories of that terrain; the trees suck but the ruins are pretty good.

Wow. Random auction. Loads of 3rd Ed rules, plus the box and then... for some reason... the 2nd Ed Codex.

Yay?

Good buy. I've got a bunch of old white dwarves that say what you get in the box, and Nick Ellingworth is totally right.

Just got the box today. I only started playing about 4-5 months if that long ago. I really gotta say that I like the older box set, Nick said the scenery is dated which is right but at least it came with some. Maybe the points where a lot less than these days but the models themselves are way cooler. I like the fact that the space marines can be mixed with today's marines, vs the black reach set you can't because they snap together. And I know everyone likes more options.

Edit: Having some of the older books and the current Eldar book is pretty cool. Some great reading ahead.

Hey which edition is that rule book at the bottom left of the picture? I have it and wonder how relevant it is to whatever edition is out right now.

Btw the art on that one Eldar Codex looks sweet! (I assume that's the 2nd edition someone mentioned earlier?)

You got all of that for 60$...you lucky bastard you! This was the first boxed set I bought, right after they finally released decent plastic SM. I believe it comes with a Land speeder and a 10 man tactical squad, and you also get 16 or 20 Dark Eldar models. I also had a raider for the Dark eldar but I cant recall if I had purchased that seperately...anyway, totally worth the money you spent ....except about 90% of the codices pictured and the rulebook are antiquated. But that is no big deal if your a collector of the hobby

4250 points of Blood Angels goodness, sweet and silky W12-L6-D4
1000 points of Teil-Shan (my own scheme) Eldar Craftworld in progress

@Aniketos: It's the third Edition rulebook. Not sure what edition the codex is but it is cool looking.

@Element: Ah the joy of ebay, wish I could find deal like this all the time.
