BattleScribe is a thorough and versatile roster building system and can be configured to build army lists for almost any game system. Although it is still in beta technically, its perfect for general use. The author recently released an update with neat new features (at least for those of us who've been using it). The best part is, its free! It can be found here:

http://www.battlescribe.net/

There are now files to support Warhammer Fantasy, Warhammer 40k and Flames of War, along with most of the accompanying armies. They can be found here:

If you'd like to contribute to the beta process or help with the different game files, here's the place to start:

Wow, I'm impressed. Simple and effective, always good to get a free alternative to Army Builder

I'd love to see some Necromunda data files for it!

The system editors lets you make catalog or game system files for pretty much any game system. Fire them up and see if you can! The editors are just as straightforward as the roster editor. I'm not familiar with Necromunda rules, else I'd do it myself.

If you want you could head over to the forums and make a request for Necromunda files, maybe someone will pick it up. Or if you do make the files yourself, you could submit them there for all to enjoy!

Mac compatible?

Battlescribe requires Java (6 or higher) and there is a zip file for linux or cross-platform installs. I haven't used it myself, but I assume the cross platform works for Macs. I know other users have used Battlescribe on Macs.

Ok, confirming that it WORKS ON A MAC!

No need for my bloody Parallels installation any more! I have now immediately switched to Battlescribe, and am going to have a go at making a cat file for the old Harlequins PDF, just to see if i can!

This is awesome. I like the interface and its much simplier (and cheaper) than the other option

I have been using this since I saw it posted here a while back.

I really like it and have had very little issue at all.

Editing to add:
In fact, now I can even see the site from work.

Not to be nitpicky, but I was fooling around with it and there are some incorrectly pointed things the Blood Angels roster. The ones I came across were the points for plasma guns and lascannons in a Tactical Squad should be 10 pts, not 15. Otherwise, great product.

Yeah, its a beta so some of the points may be off, but at this point I think its very rare.

Incorrect points are something that you can correct in about, oh, 20 seconds in the catalog editor. That's what's great about this editor, you can adjust the files if need be. If you're not that type though, you can leave mistakes in the BS forum and someone working on the project will surely update the catalogs.

That's good to know... I thought there was an issue when I was trying it out and was wondering how I could fix it... but it turns out I was doing it wrong and there was no issue.
