(not really sure exactly where this would go, as its not really tactics, but kindda.....anywho feel free to move is needed)

So Im just curious, what DAKKA thinks is the best matchup for their respective armies. Im talking a matchup that isnt 1 sided, or just steam rolls you everytime, but pretty much always a drawn out, knock down fight.

Personally, I always have that fight against Space Marines to my Orks. Other armies its either a sweeping victory, or a serious ass whopping. But against Space Marines its more often then not a good pounding on both sides, and all over the table. Infact some of my more memorable games have been when I faced off against Space Marines.

What about everyone else?

Probably work

Probably my IG vs another IG army. That's about the only game I've ever had where is was an absolute knock-down drag-out fight. Typically everything else I've played has been very decidedly one-sided after about the second turn.

My Necrons vs Eldar. Both have good speed, he has lots of shots, I have survivability. In the end it's about who gets the upper hand over the other, a true mind game.

Blood Angels vs Space Wolves. Hilariously, my Eldar did better against the Space Puppies than the Blood Angels did. Of course, my friend was using Wulfen from the Eye of Terror codex WITH his space wolves and was using option combinations that he couldn't have (let alone mixing 2 codexes when the EoT book says you can't), so maybe that had something to do with me only winning by one kill point with my BA...

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I'd say either a good Khorne army or Orks for my Wolves. Both times I've played against them in my league, it's come almost down to the last man in various brawling across the board.

IVe read alot battle reps with SW vs Orks, and there are alot of those that are serious fist fights. Again back to my pick. I know I went with vanilla marines, but still, Orks and Space Marines just beat the piss out of one another.

Theres some good picks in here so far

...urrrr... I dunno

I loved a battle I had against a mechanised Death Guard force with my Freeks. Close, hard fought and every unit fought to the death. Lovely.

Pat that askala, O-H-I hate this stupid state

Funnily enough my 1k sons against SWs. Against most SM players its close but for some reason SWs is REALLY close. The last time i fought against them it came down to him running to capture one objective i couldnt do anything about due to him immobilizing and weapon destroying my Vindie. It ended up a minor loss for me due to that.

Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel, its just a freight train coming your way!

1,000 pt Orks Vs. 1,250 pt SM. I played this, and tied as the Ork player. It was fair, and somehow much more enjoyable.

Space Marines and Necrons. Odd, maybe, but the Necrons have a reputation over here to win all the time. But one game, their Nightbringer was killed pretty quickly (after it destroyed a Land Raider with one hit) and then suddenly both sides turned out to be equal the rest of the match.

All games after that were lost again by Marines players.

You want to play a TOUGH Necron army, toss out the phase out rules and play on even points. DAMN. I do that when I play against my nephews Necrons (so its a bit more fair for the lad) and Seriously, when you cant just kill 10 warriors and win, those guys are hard to take out

Downunder

My Orks don't lose to IG, even when I've had the worst dice rolls I've brutally ripped out the still-beating heart of an IG army and punted it over the goal line...

My Imperial Fists, which are still mostly unpainted and unassembled, seem to like vanilla marines and Chaos Marines, but not Cheeseface Mc'Spamstan (Vulkan as my local group insist he be named when registering for an event) or that real nice guy; Kharn and his Khorney Friends...

Also littlenibbler Orks aren't about armour saves.
Orks are about having too many models on the table, and wasting the other guy's time with your movement phase.
Orks are about having the toughest units on the table.
Orks are about not caring about how many bodies are left in a long winding trail until the squad is down to less than a third its starting strength.
Orks are about rolling more dice then you can count without the aid of a calculator or a pen and paper.
Orks are about having totally fething insane characters tearing gak down like Doc Grotsnik, Ghazghkull or Snikrot.
Orks are about being too fething awesome to die...

My Tau and their HH's will ravage any kind of Tyranid list without Doom. Tyranid players are those who I actually am able to beat.

Also the occasional Ork Dread Spam list is also quite a walk in the park.

Everything else though will tear apart my Tau until there is nothing left by turn two

you should probably start using cover as those happen to be the 2 armies that have little to no reliable shooting and shooting is the only way to win by turn 2.

A match up I would like to see, simply because I have yet to see one is Daemonhunters vs Chaos Daemons. but if I had to call for a fair fight, Dark Angels *Deathwing* vs a Lash CSM army.
