Currently, I play magic and warmachine heavy Skaven. A Grey Seer supported by a Warlock Engineer, 2-6 weapon teams, and 2-4 warmachines of various kinds. Lotsa Skryre and Pestilens, not so much Eshin or Moulder. I've been looking at other armies, trying to go in a different direction and remembered I have some Daemonettes collecting dust. Time to put them to use.

I've heard of magic-less Daemons doing well, maybe not as well as Kairos but I'd describe my group as only moderately competative. And now, for some questions on how I should go about building a list for magic-less (or perhaps magic light, a little wont kill me) Daemons at 1000 points or so.

1. I've already got some Daemonettes, I'd like to fit them in somewhere. I was going to MSU them but in 8th it looks like hordes of them are the norm. Would units of 18 in 6x3 get shot up too quickly?

2. Bloodcrushers; I like the models, but I don't see them used too often and I wonder if they're overshadowed by Flesh Hounds. Are they worth taking?

3. Can I get away with going magic-less at this point value, or would it be advisable to take a level 1/2 to make use of what would otherwise be wasted PD?

4. Lastly, where are my anvils? Everything in the book looks both expensive and squishy, are there any units that are tougher than they look?

The abuse of greatness is when it disjoins remorse from power

Last Project: 2000 Points of Space Wolves. (Might sell for more Skaven)
Current Project: 1000 Points of Skaven.
Next Project: Tomb Kings likely.

My friend is getting into Daemons right now.

Daemonettes are great with a herald they get ASF and their I is high so it could mean some rerolling (if 6 wide) 24 Strength 3 Armor Piercing attacks with a WS of 5

Bloodletters are the elite Strength 5 attacks with killing blow.

As for an anvil unit go with Plaguebearers Toughness 4, regeneration if a Herald is in group or better yet break your magic rules and go with a large group of pink horrors, with a herald that is a 4+ wardsave and a banner of change is 3D6 Strength 3 hits bound spell to an enemy unit in base contact.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

Advice appreciated but...

Wouldn't the Daemonettes only get 18 attacks, since the second rank can only ever make 1 attack?

And I was asking about Bloodcrushers, not Bloodletters.

I think the one attack is on the charge only then it switches to the standard attacks, I wish I could confirm but I am just getting into 8th and I let my friend borrow my rulebook.

no the second rank only ever gets 1 attack in support.

Bloodcrushers are pretty much amazing, 3 of them can pump out some damage and 6 is just ridiculous. 7 S6 attacks with killing blow and then the mounts 6 attacks and killing blow as well, and then add on their stomp attacks , can really beat it as a good hammer unit. You can run them up the flank and support your other units or crash them straight into your opponents unit, as long as its not your opponents elite melee unit.

The best core unit so far has been the bloodletters, with I4 and WS5 and having the herald in there, you will have a good chance of breaking any unit on that first turn. You have to take a lot of them though, i run them 40 strong in this edition, vs 15 or so in last edition. They get chunks taken out of them every turn, with the improved shooting and the step up.

Plaguebearers really took a hit with not getting both saves and the fact they have WS2 and I1 your always going last and hitting on 4s. But i have had mild success with them since they are still s4 t4 with poisoned attacks and give them the banner of seeping decay to reroll failed wounds to make up for all the missed hits you will get with them, and they can still tie up units for a good while.

My mistake, Ogres are my main army so monsterous infantry get up to 3 attacks from the supporting rank.

I've recently started building a Daemon army and have 30 Bloodletters so far with a herald, 10 daemonettes, and 10 pink horrors with the changling. also have daemon princes, but will usually only get one of them out... i just like making the models for them... so far i have finished the DP of Khorne and Tzeench, and am working on a Slanneshi DP.... The bloodletters are going to be the backbone of my army though,

Skaven: 3000 pts
Daemons: 3000 pts
Lizardmen: 4000 pts
Rohan: 2000 pts
Retribution: 70 pts (1-2-1 so far)
Jesus: check

plaguebearers arent nearly as bad as people make them out to be imo...

Also they are WS3 not WS2.

A herald in there with the lose ASF gain ASL is pretty fun, then give him the stream of bile (s4 breath) and put him in plaguebearers with the reroll ALL wounds banner and he is doing some damage.
