In some White Dwarf ads I've noticed that some of the painting starter sets are coming with "Undercoat Black" rather than Chaos Black paint, but in others I still saw Chaos Black. Is there a difference between the two?

I'm pretty sure it's the same thing.

From what I was told it has a higher pigment count, like a foundation version of chaos black.

Could be completely wrong.

I've never realised, let alone noticed that there's a difference.

They're supposed to be the same. It was apparently renamed to make it obvious that the black can be used to undercoat as well as normal useage.

Now everyone is questioning whether the undercoat can be used instead of Chaos Black!

If I am not in my room, is it still my room?

They're identical, I believe the change was something to do with the fact that Citadel had the license for "Chaos Black" in the hexagonal pots, so GW had to rename it Undercoat Black, so that it could be used in the starter kit.

As well as the afore-mentioned "can I use this chaos black to undercoat?" problem

I was sort of hoping there was a difference, just for the sake of two options instead of one, but I wasn't really expecting it.

Nope.
It's just like the "foundation white".

Identical to the paint colour in terms of viscosity, pigment density and colour.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.
