Hey all, escalation league starts this Sunday at the local store (new to Fantasy). I already posted a list, but after play testing a couple games I've feel like shuffling the list around. Biggest thing I want is a BSB, but with the models I currently have, that isn't really an option. Pendant of Khaeleth I've only had to use against miscasts and hasn't really been used at all yet so I'm considering dropping it until the next point jump. Have also found that Cold Ones really need to win combat or they get cut down easily so I was thinking a Standard of Slaughter for them.

Here is the original list I posted:

Heroes
  • Sorceress - General, Level 2, Tome of Furion, Pendant of Khaeleth, Lore of Shadows - 185

  • Core
  • x10 Repeater Crossbowmen - 100
  • x10 Repeater Crossbowmen - 100
  • x25 Spearmen - Shields, Full Command - 190
  • x20 Corsairs - Full Command, Banner of Murder - 250

  • Special
  • x5 Cold One Knights - Full Command - 175

  • Here is the alternate list I'm thinking of:

    Heroes
  • Sorceress - General, Level 2, Tome of Furion, Lore of Shadows - 150

  • Core
  • x10 Repeater Crossbowmen - 100
  • x10 Repeater Crossbowmen - 100
  • x24 Spearmen - Shields, Full Command - 190
  • x20 Corsairs - Full Command, Banner of Murder - 250

  • Special
  • x5 Cold One Knights - Full Command, Banner of Slaughter, Ironcurse Icon - 215

  • Thoughts on the modified list?

Hate to self-bump, but curious on people's thoughts with the league coming up soon.

toss the corsairs and take a hydra and some harpies instead. my quick 2 pence

I think musicians on the crossbowmen will come in pretty handy for swift reforms in order to still be able to shoot. I think you can get the points by dropping the champ from the spears.

I'd also consider dropping the command from the cold ones, which is pretty expensive in that small unit. The points can maybe add models to that unit or elsewhere.

Otherwise, on balance, I guess the second list, possibly with the musician recommendation added...

RXB's are still move OR fire for sake of swift reforms.

Whoa. How many Dark Elf players have you gone up against?

One of us has been playing those wrong. I'm pretty sure it's you, though. Repeater crossbows can be fired on the move.

Ha what do you know I'm wrong! Been playing them like normal crossbows that shoot twice(only a few games against the wife).

    My bad.

I'll definitely be cutting the corsairs out of the list for the next escalation step and adding in a hydra and a group of shades (I prefer them over harpies). Good point on the musicians in the crossbows. The lack of a fast reform bit me during my last game.

I'll have to do some hacking apart of models to get them WYSIWYG. I'll drop the musician off the cold ones and add a musician to each RXB unit.

I'm actually a fan of Corsairs in DE armies. I've always liked throwing oodles of dice out each CC phase.

Have heard GREAT things out the Hydra. Would strongly recommend one. It's a steal at 175pts.

Yes, the hydra is an easy choice (perhaps too easy). I love the corsair models and think there's potential when a cauldron is floating around...

It's one hell of a model to put together though, and I'm wary of having so few bodies on the field if I were to include it at 1000 points. Don't know if I'll be able to get one put together by Sunday with classes and work getting in the way.

Are you referring to the Hydra when you say you're wary about taking it in fear that it will cut into your infantry points? At 175 the Hydra is often considered not only a steal but one of the most points-efficient units in the game (until a Purple Sun runs into it). 17.5 Corsairs vs. a Hydra? Yeah, I'll take the lizard every time.

If you're having trouble putting together the GW one, may I reccomend Reaper's Reptus Hydra? It's very easy to put together, looks freaking fantastic, and fits very nicely onto a chariot base (with the tail overhanging). It requires you to supply your own beastmaster models, but I rather like the old-school ones much more than the current ones so that wasn't an issue for me.

I think the list is looking good for an escalation league. I would not put the hydra in until 1500ish points.

If you were to change anything out I would ditch the CoK as they are not very good in units of 5.
