Someone pointed me to Zuzzys range of battlemats. I've been considering a battlemat, but my intended ice based Nids would look out of place on GWs battlemat, and these are perfect. Latex, 6x4, roll up like a GW mat, but are textured, paintable latex mats, perfect for anything not grass.
They recommend not using primer for painting them though, since it cracks when you roll it up. They recommend acrylics. Are there any places to get good acrylics and washes in bulk?

Try your local walmart. Craft art acrylics are not as flakey when they dry, and so should be perfect for this kind of project. You can get a pretty huge bottle of a color for less than a single pot of GW paint, so it is economical too.

Closest local Walmart would probably be across the ocean judging by his flag
I guess have a look around at some craft stores or something one of them is bound to have some.
