Hi Dakka

In the codex it says the gauntlet can be fired as a heavy flamer

Vulkan is in artificer armour so to me that reads as its a heavy 1 weapon - ie move or shoot'

In the FLGS a salamanders player told me today its an assault weapon

Can someone pls clarify for me is his heavy flamer a heavy or assault weapon?

Heavy flamers are always assault. Sisters in power armour can carry them...

Heavy flamer is an assault weapon.

Guardsmen can carry them.

My psychic powers tell me that the answer to your next question is:

Assault cannons are heavy weapons.

What has articifer armour got to do with firing and moving? unless your refering to the fact that he is NOT wearing terminator armour?

Jaon, the point was that he thought a Heavy Flamer was Heavy 1, rather than an Assault weapon. So being in power or artificer armour would prevent him from firing it on the move.

Im embarrassed and want to kill this thread now.

Only heavy flamer I have used are on my ironclad and never seen one man (or sister) packed on the table.

Having said that the weapon summary in the back was the obvious place to look.

Never the less thank you all for clarifying.

I wouldn't be too worried about it. It's not that unreasonable to assume that a Heavy Flamer would be a Heavy weapon...

Pah... Sisters of Battle Dominion squad in an Immolator is far more flaming goodness. Four flamers, Veteran Sister Superior w. combi-flamer and a priest with the same. ;-)

And the Immolator's Twin Heavy Flamer turret that can shoot after moving 12" too...

Pff, thats all you got? 10 sternguard, 2 heavy flamers, 8 combi-flamers, Vulkan, in a Land Raider Reedeemer, all combi, and heavy flamers are twin-linked. Lets see your sisters do that

Can't, but Divine Guidance and being allies in the same army as Vulkan will even it out a bit.

That sisters squad beats it on the fact that they have 4 heavy flamers. After the initial strike, the sternguard are reduced to 2.

Only if the sternguard were unlucky enough to be outside the landraider:p Besides heavy flamers are only ap 4, sternguard have 3+ saves

There are no sister units that allow 4 heavy flamers. Dominions are allowed 4 flamers (WH p 35) and Retributors can't take heavy flamers (WH p36).

Sisters can get rolls to wound of a 6 score AP1. Take flamers with that. I forget which Faith it is.

This has wandered far enough off topic by this point. Original question has been answered, so moving on.
