Like the title says. How do you try winning your battles?

Depends on the list I'm running. A lot of the time, I run melee heavy, but that's more due to my factions (Khador, Menoth, and Skorne). I do have a rather nifty Sorscha T4 list with more shooting than God, and Skorne can pull off some amazing assassination shenanigans, but those tend to be exceptions for me.

Sneaky Assassination.

Well, that's with Cryx. With Magnus, it's either the Oblit rocket or the simple sword-chop from the Traitor himself.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

I do a bit of all. When I run terminus there is no hidingplace, so I go in full on. When using denny or gaspy it is sneaky spelldeath/jack to face/unit to face.

Most of my cryx casters try sneaky ways of setting up the opponent and finishing it with a combo of 3 or 4 models/units working together.

My menoth is jack to face. it is not refined, but my caster (sevvy) can't take the upfront heat, so jacks for the kill and a bit of spellslinging it is.

Magnus is usually trying to shoot the opponent. With croes, 2 renegades and herne and johne I have a nice shooting base. They are also accompanied by eiryss and kell to increase the ranged threat. works quite well.

Legion is about up close and personal with 2 carniveans or a carnivean and a scythean. other beasts are merely for support.

that is about it, because my circle has only played once, so there is no patttern yet. It has 3 warpwolves and some reeves in it at the moment, but I am going to expand shortly.

I like the odd assassination angles approach. Most of the time, they don't see it coming.

In general it seems like you should always be trying for assassinations, otherwise its like playing chess and disregarding checkmate.

That being said, if I have to pick a flavor of army, its ranged. Melee is just everywhere and doesn't appeal to me as much. Of course Retribution led by Ravyn is really different flavor of range. I've had a few players lose games bottom 1 after I warned them not to move their caster out of their deployment zone. Guess they thought I was kidding...or didn't read my cards closely enough. One was eCaine with blur behind a wall, wow he didn't see that one coming.

I like assassination as well... but that can come in the form of range/combat/magic to death.

If I played Skorne, I'd love to Karn Casters to death .

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

I tend to favor attrition/wear-you-down type lists. Must be the rugged Chicago Bear in me.

However, I do tend to get sacked like Jay Cutler often enough.

I've found that advancing for close combat with some fire support to thin the enemy out is a good idea.

Well your always trying to straight out kill the caster, but not everyone does the straight up assassin run. I try to shoot a way in and blast the sucker before he can move.

Ive tried assassinations but I just fail at them, so I stick to what works better for me.

i usually toss in my chips in round 2 and charge with my caster if i have a moderate chance of success on a caster kill.

I was torn between the in your face melee and the kill everything, but I do tend to have too much emphasis on destroying the enemy army, then go for the caster later. It's the 40k player in me!
