How about this for a tournament. You can take up to 2000pts, but you must have a minimum of 1000pts in your army. Each game is victory points with the lower pt. army list getting an automatic bonus to VP's equal to the difference in army costs between the two players.

For example

I have a marine army of 2000pts and I play Greg who has a Tau army of 1500pts. The game is victory points and at the end Greg would get a bonus of +500 vp's to his total.

What do you think?

It's not fair. I don't like it.

if I'm playing 1000 pts, and you're playing 2000 pts, I get 1000 vp to start. Then, I get vp based on whatever I manage to kill of yours before you table me.
If I only kill 500 vp, I end with 1500 VP. If you table me, you only get 1000 VP.

Doesn't do anything to reward the better players, IMO.

It's an interesting idea... I'm not sure if everybody would go for only taking 1000 points in really-hard-to-kill units, or 2000 with great offesive firepower to try to wipe out smaller forces.

Might not work, but I'd be up for trying it out in a friendly to see how it played!

Maybe tweak it and have each game with 2 mission goals. One is an objective based goal and the other is a VP goal. That way if you take the minimum army size and go full VP denial you are putting yourself behind the 8-ball for the objective based mission goal.

Yeah... 1000p vs 2000p. If I kill anything I get more than 1000p. If you kill my whole army you get 1000p.

Another method would be you get half of what you don't take in victory points and increase the minimum amount. That stops the only taking 1k and getting an auto draw and possible victory against the person who brought 2k points.

The greater good needs some moo.

Or tabling counts as a victory. If a 2000 pt army can't table a 1000 in five turns, it deserves the loss.

It just sounds stupid to me. Is taking a handicap supposed to prove something? Why can't both armies be equal points from the start?
