Equipped my saurus with spears because even if they where equipped with hand weapon and shield I would only save 3 of them over the course of c.c. on average. That's not counting how many I could end up loosing to shooting. Also have bare bones Scar Veteran's in each block of saurus for extra hurt. The 2 salamander would also be separate not 2 in one group. Also gave my Temple Guard champion the BSoS for a 25% chance to kill a toughness 3 hero and at least a 50% chance to put a wound one.

I have also thought about dropping the Scar Veterans just to beef up my saurus groups with more saurus.

Suggestions and comments would be helpful.

I'm not personally a fan of combat characters beyond a lord but to each their own.

The list looks solid although I'd drop the scar vets for an Engine. A lack of skinks makes for almost no shooting though.

You Saurus blocks are too small for spears IMHO. I would want at least 24 for 6 wide 4 deep. With only three rows every model lost looses that extra spear attack. In 8th smaller units don't do as well. I'd definatley drop one of your scar vets to increase your saurus. I also do not care for terradons anymore sadly. With the change to war machine profiles they aren't scared of rocks anymore. I'd get some skink skirmishers or chameleons instead as they are very handy.

I would also put shields on them if you can. You may not get the +6 parry save, but getting a 4+ armor save is worth it I think.

+1 for the Skinks/Chameleons. They work well for taking out large creatures, especially if they don't have an armor save because of their poisoned attacks.

I'm also looking at an army similar to this:

  • Slann mage, BSB, warbanner, cupped hands of the old ones, 4 disiplines. 520pts

  • 20 saurus warriors, spears, sheilds and full command. 270 pts

  • 20 saurus warriors, spears, sheilds and full command. 270 pts

  • 18 saurus warriors, spears, sheilds and full command. 246 pts

  • 20 Temple guard, full command, huanchi's blessed totem. 380pts

  • Ancient stegadon. 275pts

  • Ancient stegadon. 275pts

  • 2482Pts.

Carl I offer pretty much the same advice. Your saurus blocks are too small for spears. for me its min 28 for 6 wide 4 deep. I'd make two groups of 28, drop 20ish saurus and turn those into skink skirmishers, chameleons and/or salamanders. A skink priest with the cube of darkness is also handy.

The list looks good. The only odd thing is usually cupped hands goes with the slaan rather than the priest. The warbanner isn't a bad choice. I prefer the sun standard myself as the slann unit gets lots of fire pointed at it.

i would switch 1 ancient too an EotG. give the cupped hand to the slann and give the priest a diadem for xtra dispell.

you could exchange 1 unit of saurus for some kroxigors and chameleon skinks, so you're a little bit more rounded in your force.

just my 2 cents you really don't need cupped hands if your going lore of life.

Nothing beats being able to choose wither to toss a particullary bad miscast on the enemy or simply bounce a soft one off the throne.

Unless you play against dwarfs that don't have mages, and cupped hands becomes useless. Something i walked into recently

Against dwarven magic deffence you're far less likely to actually have throne up but would still wanna shoot for IF regardless, it's nice to still have that extra miscast protection even if it's pretty expensive for a one shot item at that point.

Why not go with Soul of Stone, instead then? 5 more points and not nearly as potentially devastating, but re-usable. Of course, you can always just roll the same result again...

Because compleetly ignoring the miscast is much better.
