Had this idea for awhile and a topic I was in made me think more on it.

flechette drone -30 points (special issue, 1 per army)

This drone is identical in looks and appearance to a shield drone but has a unique purpose. When the unit with the controller is charged, the drone will immediately fly ahead of the unit discharging its flechettes forcing the charging unit to fall back.

Flechettes:
The charge counts as having failed, coming up 2 inches short of the targeted unit. The drone is removed from play. (this ability cannot be controlled, the first unit to charge will trigger the effect.)

Concealed:
The drone appears to be a shield drone until its special ability is activated. You must write down which unit this drone is in.

The idea is to have a useful way to avoid CC once for one unit, and to not let the enemy know which unit will have the drone (considering multiple units have drones.)

I dunno. When I think Flechette drones, I'd see it as something like:

Fast attack
Flechette Drone Squad: one per army, 1-5 Flechette drones

30 points per drones

Wargear: flechette Dischargers

Special Rules:

It's a trap!: when the game starts, the Tau Player picks a Piece of Terrain in the Tau Deployment zone (without telling the opponent which piece). When an Enemy squad gets within 2 inches of the Piece of terrain, the Drones pop out of the terrain and Explode, showering the enemy with Flechettes and Shrapnel. Any enemy Model the the squad that activated the drones takes a wound on a D6 roll of 4+ per drone.

---------------------------

It only works once, but damn does it work.

That's an excellent idea as well. I was just looking for something to help the Tau avoid CC for a bit longer.

no no no you should be as bad as blood angels and have

Fast attack
Flechette Drone Squad: one per army, 1-30 Flechette drones

Three units may be bought for one slot but act independently

1 points per drones

Wargear: flechette Dischargers

We could do Failsafe Drones ( before I am done today, I will put every piece of Tau Wargear on a Drone)

Failsafe Drone: one per army, costs 40 points.

Wargear: Failsafe Detonator
Shield Generator

Special rules:

DPG( drone Propelled grenade): when the Squad with the Failsafe Drone is Assaulted, the drone leaves the Squad and assaults the enemy squad, Exploding with a S8 AP- Large blast. The Enemy squad cannot assault after being hit with the Failsafe Drone.

How about ejection drones that shoot out tau midgets?

Nah. an Ejection Drone would have to be a Crisis suit sized shield drone that fires regular sized gun drones at Enemy sqaud.

Well the kroot dont have drone yet...... Maybe kroot riding them? Actually why the hell wouldn't they? surely the tau have strong enough anti-grav and imagine the mobility if the drones were made bigger and stronger. Itd be like hellions but with beaks.

That's brilliant!

Ejection Drones V2: May be purchased for Kroot( Regular and Shaper only) if you take a Shaper at 10 points per model. You must take it for every model. It allows the Kroot to jump-shoot-jump. During the assault phase, all the kroot can use the Ejection platform on the Drones. The kroot are fired 12 inches to an enemy unit and thier Initiative double for that turn. The turn after they are launched, they are pinned and the turn after that, the kroot move as if going through Difficult terrain.

Edit: Sorry for stealing your thread Melchiour

I like the idea of a drone giving you protection from CC. But, I'm opposed to anything that requires "hidden" information. This gives a squad a free extra turn of shooting, that's powerful enough.

What about the Chtulhu stealers? They are hibernating in a hidden piece of terrain until an enemy gets near it.
