So, Dark Elfdars with Dark lances and Dark Blasters with the Darkness Shields of Darkness.

I am thinking, perhaps a Black Templar Army is a good way to deal with them?

AV14 that STAYS AV14 against Lance, lots of CC goodies and POTMS Vindies might make it worthwhile.

At least they don't have a character named The Darkinator.

As to your question, Templars with Blessed Hull Land Raiders certainly seems viable as an option. It would be hard to bring more than a couple Land Raiders at the 1500 level though, since Blessed Hull is so expensive. (This is somewhat relevant, as Land Raider spam/excessive use is one of the more notable BT strategies).

Though I do have to point out that Blessed Hull is pretty much worthless against everyone but DE. Lance weaponry is just not prevalent enough in other armies to warrant it.

For the rest of the army? Yeah, I think the CC goodies that BT have will keep them competitive against Dark Eldar, but I certainly don't think that Templars will have an unfair advantage compared to other armies.

Some day though, I hope to play a Dark Lance spammer, using 3 Land Raiders with Blessed Hull, just to see the look on their face when I tell/show them that my Land Raiders ignore the lance rule.

new dex in less than two months, considering GW latest codex history, you should be expecting tons of new stuff to worry about

I think I'll stick to paying 3 pts for smoke launchers instead of spending 25 pts for Blessed Hull.

Same thing with POTMS.

It's an old codex, BT players can't afford to drop pts on the fancy situational stuff. If it turns out DE lance spam becomes a power build, I'll make the change but right now I'll wait until I see the rules.

I agree, though at higher points levels (2000+) it's a bit more affordable (and doesn't cripple your army nearly as much as it does at the <1500 level).

We will see when the rules for DE come out.

However I am quite hopeful as BT can be quite fast for a footslogging army (if you play them thus) and always getting to reroll hits in CC is as awesome as ever.

I think if you could drop the transports (I heard av 10 somewhere might have been bols) and get most of the DE on the ground you would have a better then average chance of slaughtering them in CC on the charge.

It will be interesting to see what the poison does to the game though, it could make CC a real pain potentially.

Honestly, I think the Blessed Hull isn't really needed that much.

Even with the new codex, I doubt there will be that many DE players around (at least not after a few months when the shine wears off). Even if you do run into a DE army, because of points cost increases, it'll have fewer lance weapons that a DE army made from the 3rd ed codex. Lastly, the Blessed Hull is a fairly expensive upgrade that will only have significant use against a single army.

I doubt there will be Dark Lance spam anymore. It will probably go up to about the price of the Eldar ones. They have to save the marines.

I've heard some rumours (from being at gamesday - though i stress these are rumours), that dark lances are to be assault weapons now.

If that's true, I expect to see many, many dark lance heavy DE lists. In CC, i honestly don't think BT have much to worry about, save for high initiative wytches and the like.

Personally, i'd be more concerned with GETTING to close combat. Once that's done, the rest usually takes care of itself with the boys in black.

The only thing that makes me nervous is the rumored ability for Hellions to pull ICs out of units. The Marshal is a such a important model in all infantry BT builds everybody tries to waste him as soon as they learn he's giving the army Ld10.

Kill the Marshal and any long range fire support will collapse with target priorities at Ld7 and morale checks for every wound. Then Raiders can run circles around the rest of the army.

The thing is, the BT codex gets real retinues, so the Marshal with a command Squad stops being an IC until you kill the retinue!

Thanks for the further clarification. Tactics regarding the new DE book can be posted here in November when the book is published. All hypothesizing about prospective DE rules should in the meantime happen in the thread I linked earlier or its successors.
