Oh, here and there.

Not sure if this is the right forum for this, but I wanted to get an idea of how much it would cost to go into business with a sculptor on DakkaDakka.

I'd be interested in the green(or whatever pre-molded form you sculpt in) that I could later cast and sell as a part of a miniature game I am developing. Essentially I'd want rights to the models. Artistic freedom would be paramount, it should be mentioned.

It is a pirate themed game, and so I'd need suitably heroic models in the 28mm heroic scale. Something akin to

and

You'll be given full credit and mention in the final rulebook, and I'd love to build relationships with sculptors and discuss the game in further detail.

Oh, and I need loads of boats. Like... 26 inch long galleon style warships. Yeah. Not as enthusiastic about those yet, as I'm sure they'll be expensive to buy and cast, and hard to make.

Anyway, shoot me a PM if you wanna talk about it. Oh, and I'd like to see some examples of past work and some kind of time-table. Nothing is set in stone, though, and depending on how much this runs me, the idea may have to wait anyway.

Thanks, Dakka!

PM a guy named 'sprue' on either Wargamer AU or OzPainters... he is a phenomenal sculptor.

Other similarly-talented chaps are KnightOfSanguinius and the guy who sculpted the Dwerg- also on those forums

Cheers. Any idea of the cost for such an endeavor?

FreakForge is amazing for single guys, expensive but a true master, and Inquisitor Earl is fantastic for groups, great prices and work.

Both Dakka members, you can find him here -

Thanks for the recommendation Tom.

I would certainly like to work on such a project. Pirates are my thing and have been since i was little. I've even got pirate lego in my room and i'm 23!

Price is certainly a pertinent issue but it's hard to give quotes for things like this. I recently read that a top sculptor was paid $1000 US to sculpt each character for a certain game. I work for much, much lower prices as I'm really only beginning my work in this area.

Obviously casting methods would have to be taken into account but I am working with both a resin caster and spin white metal caster at the moment to do my own range of miniatures. That has given me some insight that is very helpful.

You can see some examples of my work on Tom's Genestealer cult blog and on my Mechanicus project blog.

Oh and about the ships, it wouldn't be too difficult to cast them if proper thought was done in terms of mould design.

I am Inquisitor Earl, fear my sandwich!

I've seen your blog, and yeah, I'm impressed with your work. That gives me hope that I'll be able to get this project off of the ground eventually, all I need is some money and somebody like you.

Thanks, everybody, really.
