I am planning on converting a small force from each of the armys of Barsroom. This is a topic about which army I should use to represent each, and how to convert them. Each force would be 500 pts. (I have disposable income now)

For those unaware, John Carter of Mars is a series of books written in 1912 and the following years. (yes a 98 year old series) It's about a man who wakes up on Mars naked and conquers single-handedly the planet over the course of three books. In it Mars is a decaying planet covered with ruins of ancient ports from when there was water, primitve barbarians, and warring city-states. Since the book was written right before ww1 the armys seem to be structured and fight like that era despite having flying battleships. (and they insist on melee when they have guns)

The green martians are 12 foot tall 4 armed barbarians traving amongst the ancient ruins of Mars. They are decsribed as superb fighters, equal to 10 red martians. A special character could be Tarkus John Carter's closest companion. They ride 6 legged mounts and prefer melee despite being the most accurate shots on Mars. I'm not sure how to represent them or model them.

The red martians are smarter but frailer, especially compared to John who is stronger than everyone due to being made for stronger gravity. They exist as city-states and fight with infantry and flying battleships. I could represent them as imperial guard but I can't see how to model them.

The Therns are the are the self-proclaimed masters of life and death on Mars. They are split between plain therns and the holy Therns who are the rulers and beleive themselves gods. The Therns as a whole control Mars's religion and venrate the plant-men. Not sure how to portay them, I would model them similar to the red martians.

The Firstborn are the self-proclaimed supermen of Mars. They believe themselves above labor and as such live upon slave labor, the slaves also serving as the food supply. They fly upon small fast open craft and raid the Therns and everyone nearby for slaves. There entire existance is based on captureing slaves and are decribed as liking to be cruel. I don't even have to think who to rpresent them as, and have a fair idea of how to model them.

The yellow martians are just like the red martians.

Any ideas on how to do this project? Also you get a cookie if you've heard of the 98 year old series before now. Cake if you've read them.

Four scholars at Oxford were making their way down the street, and happened to see a group of ladies of the evening. “What’s this?” said the first. “A jam of tarts?” “Nay,” said the second, “an essay of Trollope’s.” “Rather, a flourish of strumpets,” advanced the third. “No, gentlemen,” concluded the last. “Here we have an anthology of pros.”

Read them and I dont think anything from 40k would work at all. There are some miniatures based on the series though. Check out the links below:
