Hey guys!

I'm a marine player (vanilla), and was toying with the idea of ultramarines, but then a brainwave struck, and i've now decided to collect a bit of everything!!!!!
It came about from looking through the special characters, and wanting vulkan alongside marneus calgar.

The codex characters represent 6 chapters, and i'm going to include each of them, i'll have one tac squad for each chapter, but wanted a few units that best fitted the character, however i'm not the sharpest spoon in the drawer so need some help....

The chapters are

Imperial Fists (Lysander) - Lysander is 1st company so thinking Terminators
Raven Guard (Shrike) - Vanguard Veterans With Jump Packs
Crimson Fists (Kantor) - ????
White Scars (Khan) - Bike Squads
Salamanders (Vulkan) - ????
Ultramarines (All Others) - Rest Of Forces

As you can see, the two i'm having trouble with are Crimson Fists and Salamanders, although if anyone can think of better alternatives for any then great..

Thanks in advance all you lovely people

Not really sure with vulkan, maybe a devastator squads of multimeltas ? Kantor is sternguard friendly, making them scoring units ( very handy ).With lysander, don't forget to make sure its the shooty termies he goes with, due to his bolter drill.

I should probably also add that I play just for fun, so unit suggestions should be based on the chapter, don't really care how effective they are!!

Edit:
@ Pedro
Dev Multimelta sounds fun
Love the sternguard, so anything to boost them is good, and lysander with shooty terms, can have assault terms in ultramarine colours

Thanks

Thanks for the advice.

Next problem.... which characters special rules shall i use to replace combat tactics?
I'm being drawn to Vulkan, master-crafted thunderhammers and twin-linked meltas & flamers sounds too good to miss, but what do you guys think?

I think the term for this would be a Crusade army...

No thunderhammers are imperial fists.
Salamanders are devastors.

After a quick perusal of my codex, I figure the best chapter tactic to take would be Vulkan's. Kantor allows scoring sternguards even without his chapter tactics, and Lysander only imparts stubborn on his units (which IMO isn't worth it). Kantor allows you to outflank (yawn) Missing Shrikes fleet is kinda sad, but Vulkan's master crafting and TL will provide more help to the army as a whole. Besides if Shrike moves with assault marines he will still have a striking range of 18" which isn't bad.

My concern though, is that this army is going to be really expensive. Each of those characters is just south of 200 points with Calgar being 250. Thats almost 1200 (1170 to be exact) points just in characters. Add in squads for them to all roll with and your looking at a 2000+ army. Thats without any vehicles. Though the painting/modeling would be tons of fun.

I would say for Vulkan it should be something like a Land Speeder Squadron with multi-meltas and heavy flamers on all of them, or a Devastator squad with all multi-meltas. Really bring out the fire aspect.

Land Speeders don't really fit from a fluff aspect. Nocturne has wonky gravity that makes training for and maintaining Land Speeders difficult.

@PraetorDave - it will be a really expensive army points-wise, but im looking at major apoc battles i could play!! Once xmas is out of the way, i'll have three of the characters (calgar, sicarius and kantor) and i've worked a rough approx army size of 6500pts!!!

Now i just need to work out how to get motivated for painting, i don't like painting at all, which is why from all my current marines ive only got about 6 marines painted!! lots of sprayed black models!!

Haha oh well if it's for Apoc then by all means. This is the beginnings of a great army!
