Hi All
Last weekend the Mrs and I went to see some friends. While the ladies went shopping, we managed to get a 1500 point game in at his local Game workshop. They only had 4x4 tables and we had a 2 hour limits but hey a game is a game. Due to the time limit though I was unable to take notes or photo’s so this is mostly from memory. I’ve done a terible picture in paint but that’s as good as your going to get sorry.
He brought an Ork speed freak/hybrid army. Not 100% certain about his list as I didn’t grab it off him but I think it was basically this.

I won the role off and chose to go first; when we rolled for missions we got capture and control with pitched battle deployment. Deployment was as follows
4x4 board was set up with a 3 storey ruin in my half on the right which was my objective. In the middle of the board went trees, ruin, trees across the board in his half were a bastion pretty much opposite my ogjective (that he used as his objecive and on the left flank was another ruin.
I know this is a rubbish picture and I’m sorry, me and the mrs went halves on a camera for an anniversary and I’ve yet to see it.
I castled my
LRBT’s in each corner with the Platoons providing infantry support (bubble wrap), my
CCS when on the third floor of the building that was objective roughly in the middle of my deployment. All the chimera’s lined up in the middle with the hell hounds behind.
He put his biker on my right flank, surrounded the bastion (his objective) with the shoots boyz, the Nob bikers with Warboss attached when slap bang in the middle as far forward as he could get them (my
LOS was slightly blocked by a ruin right in front of them). Next to the nobs slightly left of my centre he put the slugga boyz. Zagstruk started in reserves.
Fluff
On the top floor of a long abandoned tenement block Col Lynch and his command squad slowly worked there way towards a broken window.
“There out there” spat Corporal Hemmes as he hefted his missile tube on to his shoulder “I can smell them”
“Not that I doubt you nose corporal, but it would seem like a waste of our effort if we climbed all this way and I didn’t use my Binoculars” smiled Lynch “you don’t mind do you>”
“if you insist sir” Hemmes grinned back
The tenement block overlooked the whole emperor forsaken settlement, the water or minerals or whatever had led to its founding having long since run out, it had been left to the dessert to reclaim. It only significance to the imperium was that there was still a listening post nestled in the North East, on of a chain that gave the local PDF desert over watch for the whole sector.
The Listening post had gone quiet some two hours earlier, normally a patrol wouldn’t be dispatched for another 10 hours however the days when the silence could have been attributed t a broken vox or faulty antenna were long gone, they had ended the day the truth behind the attacks on the Eastern Caravans were discovered, the day it was discovered that filthy Xeno’s had made planet fall, the day that Orks were found on Tartis XI.
As Lynch cast his gaze toward the now silent post the reason for its silence was made all too clear. The orks had the building surrounded; a group of 30 “Boyz” were swarming around the base of the bastion trying to force entry evidently with little success. As there frustration grew they were taking pop shots at the antenna and relay dishes the dotted the surface of the listening post. A great dust cloud was swirling around the boyz as groups of whooping orks riding smoke spewing bikes lent their fire to the mutilation of the bastion surface.
As Lynch placed a small laser designator on the window ledge he muttered the prayer the enginseer had given him to appease its machine spirit and to ensure its accuracy and activated his com bead.
“Nobel”
“Yes sir” the lieutenant replied
“the designator is in place, looks like the crew of listening post might still be alive. If we can’t secure the post quickly the Navy are going to blow the hell out off it, the supplies inside cannot be allowed to fall in to enemy hands, so we need shake a tail. I’ll provide over watch and ensure the designator is not disturbed. I need you and Pickett to attempt a rescue, but we must not lose this position”
“No worries sir, I’ve got a few troops down here are eager to introduce the Xeno’s to Mr Yellow” Lynch could hear laughter and boasting of Nobel’s squad in the background.
“the emperor protects lieutenant”
“The emperor protects, Sir”
Tactics
Most of the cover is on his side and whether I like it or not he probably going to be assaulting my vehicles turn 2. He going to go for my hellhound because he knows they are best chance I have of killing his bikers. I figure my best chance is to hit him early, try and take the initiative. If I can use my vehicles to slow him up in mid field I can shell him. Those Bikers need to die. Saying that I need to whittle down those Boyz, because in my past games boyz are the things my blobs have the biggest trouble with but at least they are on foot.
Turn 1 (1:1)
Jalvene 33rd
Movement
All 3 chimera move 12” and pop smoke. The hellhounds follow up them. Nothing else moves.
Shooting
Both Hellhounds flame the nob bikers, thanks to the grouping both get 8 hits but after, all the saves they only kill one. The right
LRBT tries to land a round on the nobs but it scatters off target. The right
Ac blob have a go at the normal bikers but do nothing. The Left
LRBT hasn’t got
LOS on the bikers so drop a round in amongst the sluggers killing 8, the left
Ac blobs tries to add to this but fails. My
CCS fires frag missile at the biker it hits but does nothing.
Assault
None
Orks
Movement
Bikers move 12” down my right flank, nobs scoot forward ready to assault my right
PCS chimera and the boyz move forward to engage the left
PCS.
Shooting
The big shootas open up on the
CCS in the ruin and manage to get a number of wounds, killing both the grenade launchers. They pass there leadership. (I decided to take it on both the
GL’s rather than putting one on the
ML team because I want to keep them alive as long as possible because they can insta kill the nobs)
The bikers fire of 30 twin linked shots into my right
AC blob and manage to kill 13s but the commissar keeps them in line.
Slugga fire a couple of Rokkits into my left
PCS chimera, but either miss or fail to do anything.
Assault
Slugga pile into front of the Left
PCS chimera, even though he needs 6’s to hit a he still gets 2 immobilized and a weapon destroyed. So it’s wrecked the
PCs pile out and
pas pinning.
Biker Nobs just straight wreck the right Chimera and again the
PCS piles out and passes leadership.
Turn 2 (1:1)
Tactics:
Ok that could have gone better, little disappointed that the Hellhounds didn’t do more damage but they are still alive so there is still a chance. The loss of the two chimera is regrettable but not the end of the world at least both
PCS are now positioned to flame his units. The bikers and sluggas are hopefully now tied up for the next turn and with my units so close I don’t want to risk scattering with my
LRBT so their target is the other bikers especially as I don’t think the reduced right blob will be able to survive a charge. First priority is still the bikers both kinds.
Jalvene 33rd
Movement
The Hellhounds dance around a little (to ensure they don’t get insta hit), the vets chimera does the same. Both the right and left
PCS’s line up to maximise their flamer damage.
Shooting
CCS fire a Krak missile at the Nobs but miss. Right
PCS flames the nobs and does nothing maybe gets 1 wound. Left
PCS gets 32 hits on slugga and kills about half maybe less. Hellhounds light the nobs killing a couple and the Mad Doc (hoorah). Vets fire and there chimera fire on the nobs and get may be one (there is only the warboss and two nobz left by this point.)
Left
AC fires at the slugga and don’t do much. Both
LRBT and the right
AC platoon wipe out the bikers except the nob who fails moral and runs for home.
Assault
The Right
PCS are going to die next turn anyway they are too close and too dangerous to the sluggas to be allowed to live, so I pre-empt their death and charge the sluggas hoping the increased attack might take a couple of orks before they die. They suck and are killed horribly, orks consolidate 6“.
Orks
Zagstruk turns up but mishaps allowing me to place him. I’m torn between sticking him in the open so I can shell the hell out of him or sticking him in a corner so I can worry about him later. In the end I stick him in the left corner as far away from my objective as possible. (Bit of a disagreement here as I was told I couldn’t put then in dangerous terrain. After I placed them someone else in the shop said I could. Didn’t matter though as all the terrain was closer than I wanted them to be)
Movement:
Nobs move to assault Hellhounds
Sluggas move up to vets chimera and block the access point.
The lone biker continues to retreat.
Shooting
Sluggas unload rokkits into back of vets chimera and shaken and weapon destroy it.
Shootas take a pop at the
CCS manage to get 2 wounds but I make both the cover saves.
Assault
The Nobs assault the two hellhounds and wreck them both (I should have spread them out better and moved the full 12” but that’s the joy of hindsight. In turn 4 there was a slight disagreement over whether or not one was actually wrecked. I was convince it had only been stunned and weapons destroyed, however I could have been wrong and rather than argue I accepted it. Next time I’m using post its though)
The Shoota assault the chimera and finish it off killing the squad inside (queue another disagreement, Dennis said that as he was blocking the access to the vehicle the whole squad was killed, I said that emergency disembarking meant that I could exit 2” from the hull and the only way to kill the whole squad would have to have surround the whole vehicle. Dennis said that he’d had it done to him in a tournament and the black shirt said I’d made the rule up. So I allowed it. When I got home I checked page 67 of
BRB and sure enough I hadn’t made it up. After talking to Dennis about it, It turned out the black shirt is an arse that can’t even play well and the guy in tournament must have cheated.)
Turn 3 (1:1)
33rd Jalvene
Tactics
Ok most my vehicles are dead but they did what I wanted them too, however at this point I think I’m in trouble. He’s got his warboss and two bikers and a few sluggas in my half and zagstruk boyz are intact. Main plan is to use everything to try and take out those nobs as I don’t have
LOS on the storm boyz and they’ll be coming to me soon enough.
Movement
My surviving
PCS moves up to flame the slugga boyz
Both my
LRBT Shuffle a little to avoid insta hits.
Shooting
PCS flames the sluggas and kills them all apart from the nob.
The left
AC blob fire at the Nobs and tag 1.
CCS fires a krak at the nobs but misses.
Left
LRBT fires on nobs but misses.
Assault
The
PCS charge the lone slugga nob but fail to do anything and to make matters worse they lose combat break and are run down giving him another 6” consolidation.
Orks
Waaagh is called.
Movement
The retreating biker rallies and thanks to waaagh and head toward the right
AC blob.
Slugga Nob charges towards the left
AC blob and so does the warboss who separates from the nob biker. The nob biker move into contact with my objective. Making it 0:1
The storm boyz surge forward toward the centre of the table.
Shooting
Slugga nob runs
Shoota shoot at
CCS and kill the
ML loader.
Assault
Warboss and Slugga nob charge the left
AC blob. I lose four guardsmen but manage to put a wound on the warboss and kill the nob. I lose the combat but the Commissar does his job and keeps me in the fight.
Turn 4 (0:1)
Tactics
Ok this is edited a little because at this point in the game I thought I still had a hell hound and was planning to rush it at his objective when it was unstunned. The Warboss isn’t really an issue the main problem is he is tying up 27 men and Zagstruk is incoming. My LRT going to try and thin out the rushing Storm boyz, everything else is going to have kill the remaining bikers and consolidate on my objective. At this point best I can hope for is a draw.
Jalvene 33rd
Movement
Both the
LRBT do a little dance to avoid insta hits.
Shooting
CCS fires a missile at the nob contesting the objective and miss.
Right
AC blob fire everything at the lone biker rushing toward them and kills him.
Both
LRBT shell the storm boyz and kill 5 between them.
Assault
The Left
AC blob finishes off the Warboss and consolidates 2” towards my objective.
Orks
Movement
Zagstruk and friends move toward the victorious Left
AC blob.
To my surprise the lone nob leaves the objective and head towards the left
LRBT.
Shooting
Shoota take a pop at
CCS again and do nothing.
Assault
Nob biker assaults the left
LRBT and explodes it.
Zagstruk hits the Left
AC blob I kill four he kill 7 I lose but once again commissar does his Job.
Turn 5 (1:1)
Tactics
Ok a draw is in my grasp, the left blob just needs to survive and I just need to kill that lone nob. This is very doable.
Movement:
Right Platoon moves towards the lone nob with my remaining
LRBT in support
Shooting
Right platoon runs but only move 2”
CCS firs a Krak missile at the biker and kills him, first Krak missile hit of the whole game.
With the nob dead and nothing else to do the
LRBT shoots at the shootas and gets a mighty 8 kills.
Assault
The Left platoon kill all the remaining storm boyz and makes Zagstruk leg it.
He calls a draw as we’ve not got enough time for another turn and all he is going to do is shift his Shootas around.
Fluff
Lynch and corporal Hemmes watched as missile after missile slammed into the listening post and the remaining orks were blown apart. They had been too slow to save the Listening posts crew but at least they would not be subjected to horrors of the enemy.
“At least they died for the emperor” Hemmes grunted
“That they did Corporal” sighed Lynch
“That’s all any one can ask” said a voice behind them, they both turned weapons raised. Standing in the shattered doorway was a bloody and battered figure with a huge grin on his face.
“Nobel you made it” Grinned Lynch as he stood up and embraced the bloodied Lieutenant
“the emperor protects, sir”
“that he does, that he does”
Conclusion
I think if I had argued more and was able to find the emergency disembarking rules I might have been able to win. I need to make better notes of what damage my vehicles have taken as I’m sure that hellhound was alive and coupled with the vets could have made for a very different ending. Saying that though I don’t think my opponent would deliberately cheat and I didn’t really want to get in an argument with him as he’s a friend and I’d rather have fun and draw than win and cause tension.
All in all I was happy with how everything performed. The hellhounds could have done better but they did kill the Mad Doc which made the nobs a lot more killable and if I’d spaced them better I’m sure they would have done better. The
LRBTs racked up a large number of kills between them wiping out the bikers and taking big bites out of nearly everything else. The left blob ground down everyone who touched it, love these guys. The Left
PCS also did really well netting a dozen or so kills. Vets were a little lame but hey I’m not going to blame them for that one.
I’d like to thank Mercer, Ailaros and Claypool for there help with the list.
