Excellent, Its IA apocolypse 2, I just need to wait on it being sent
I searched around a good few forums to find out more, Bassically with the regular GW drop pod, a dreadnought may not assualt on the turn that it arrives but as it is a walker it may fire 2 weapons.
With the Forgeworld dreadnought drop pod it may assualt on the turn that it arrives

And still fire.
Complete steal for the points. Whereas chaos get stuck with 3 different versions of a much less useful droppod...

Good luck getting anyone to let you use the Lucius pod outside of an apocalypse game.

Thanks for the link i didnt know you could get the info via the website
surely an opponent would allow me to field dreadnought drop pods in a non appocalypse game after all im paying the extra points for the ability to assault..... Would you allow me to field them?

I wouldn't ever allow it, unless it's Apocalypse. Ironclad Dreadnoughts dropping down the first turn and instantly getting stuck in or ripping faces off? Yeah, sounds perfectly balanced...

You slightly wasted your money on buying the book; If you wanted the rules that is.
The IA2 (and 1) Updated rules are available for free download on Forgeworld's site Here: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/i/IA2update28AUG.pdf
Edit: Danggit, I didn't see Arschbombe's post.

How are you finding the link to download these books? i cant find it on forgeworld, Ive followed your link to the IA vol 2 but just wondering how you download Vol 1
Thats a shame... ive just bought 3 dreadnought drop pods just over a week ago Guess ill just have to save them for an apocolypse game
Refrence Ironclads dropping in and ripping faces off.... Whats the diffrence between that and a Trygon/Mawloc or Red Terror bursting from underneath and ripping faces off?? Why is one apocolypse only and the other is not?

You can use the Drop pods just fine, you just have to use the normal rules in your codex for them.
Drop Pods being able to assault when the deep strike is, for the lack of a better word, broken. The whole point is to balance it out by giving the enemy a chance to stop it before it wrecks too much stuff (and considering it can take a Multimelta, that's a good idea )

Thanks for the link Got both vol's now.
I can understand that it would be pritty brutal to drop in 3 dreadnoughts via deep strike but im sure that if i deep struck a Trygon, Mawloc and a red terror..... The effects would be the same. Thou im going to use my Dreadnought drop pods with regular rules rather than buying 3 GW drop pods

The issue with the lucius pod is that it only costs 15 points more than a normal pod and it protects the dreadnought from its biggest threat when it lands: getting shot. Generally, a dreadnought in melee is a safe dreadnought. The ability to assault after deepstriking is rare and expensive. The lucius pod is far too cheap for what it does.

Neither Trygons nor Mawlocs may assault the turn they arrive. The Trygon has shooting attacks (so the effect would be similar to a dread shooting once dropped) and the Mawloc has an area affect ability that happens once when it deep strikes, but then both stand there for the opponents shooting phase waiting to die.
From a fluff standpoint I agree that DP's should all be assault vehicles but that would be very, very broken.

True, thou the area effect has the same effect, But if you think of a trygon, mawloc and red terror......having a ground effect on an enemy oppenent when they deep strike the effects would still be the same as a dreadnought assualting you......
Unless your going to shoot an oppentent that has just burst from the ground beneath you.................!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No I believe it would be the same as a dreadnought or a squad shooting on the turn it deepstrikes...and then standing around for the opponents turn while he shoots the crap out of them. If they could assault when they deepstrike they would be able to tie up an enemy unit and be safe from enemy shooting. That's where the balance issue comes in.

'Lucius' pattern drop pods are one of the units that give FW a bad rep for being overpowered. I have played against them and they are so very very broken, though I do commend you on buying the models the opponent who used them against me had normal drop pods which he'd written 'lucius' on.
They are very good for Apoc though where everything is a little more over the top.

With the rules of dreadnought drop pods being broken.... would you still allow me to field them even in an apocolypse game?

I'd play against that in a regular game. Besides with all those marine armies of razorback spam wouldn't it be able to assault one tank or a combat squad if it shot the tank to death and then wipe them out and get all the shots at it next turn anyway? The only thing i would want to do is be able to field my own IA stuff. I'd love to try out that ork chopper.
Edit: Unless we were playing a bunch of stuff as proxy I wouldn't let you count a regular drop pod as a dred drop pod without significant changes to the actual pod. But if you spent the money on the Forgeworld stuff then that would be cool.

Yes. However, what prevents you from taking just one? At 1750, you could easily fit in 4 or 5 dreads with lucius pods, along with bare minimum tactical squads with their own pods to make sure you get the dreads on round 1. While one dread dropping into your army and charging is a tad OP, doing it with five at round 1 is just silly.

Good point on the blood angels issue, I hadent thought of a complete drop pod army complete with at least 5 dreads to insure a 5 dread drop on turn one..... That would be devastating. What if i agreed to only use say.... 3 but not include them in the turn one drop? What do you think?

It doesn't matter what turn you use them in they are broken (in some ways they are harder to defend against after 1st turn) and any player would be well within his rights to refuse to let you use them.
All this being said you are free to use them in Apoc where broken is just part of the fun.
