Folks,
Not only am I a big fan of
40k, I'm also a huge sucker for Malifaux. Hopefully there's some like-minded souls who would be interested in my painting blog, and for everyone else - what a marvellous opportunity to give you a taste of the game!
For those of you unfamiliar with 'The Guild' - these are essentially the authorities of the city of Malifaux, and while the official line is that that they protect the masses from the myraid of horrors out there (of which there are plenty!); aside from the privilidged elite, it's more a case that the Guild realise that it's a lot more fun to rule with an iron fist if there's people alive to rule! Besides,
someone has to mine those Soulstones...
One of the greatest threats to the Guild are the 'Neverborn' - the original inhabitants, and pretty much the personification of nightmares; be it your bog-standard demon, or a 10ft tall Teddy Bear with sharp claws and sharper teeth. In one of their better strokes of genious, the Guild have enlisted the help of anyone with a gun who fancies their chances by offering to 'Deputise' them and send them off to hunt down the Neverborn. While the end results tend to be very predictable (and gory), a rare few have managed to survive, with some turning out to be really good at killing them - the most famous being the Ortega family, led by the lovely (and ninja-esque) Perdita Ortega.
I'm going to start my foray into the Guild with this Mexican gun-slinging family, and am looking to paint up and post a new character roughly every two weeks.
Fortunately I can already start us off with our first Guild member - Fransisco Ortega:
Fransisco is the older brother to Perdita, and is famed for being the one of most skilled duelests around, with an awesome moustache to boot. On the board he can't take much of a beating compared to his siblings, but his fluff as a duelist is perfectly translated into game abilities with his great combat stats (especially with his sword), and his ability to cheat fate to increase his chances of getting a combat resolution which results in him spanking his opponent.
I've found him to work great as either a partner to Perdita as they sneek around alleyways to catch the opponent off-guard, or as someone to hold back and deliver a clean and deadly counter-attack to anyone wanting to mess up the Ortega family in close combat.
Thanks for sticking around, and any comments or suggestions are of course more than welcome as a motivator to keep updating!
