Subject: "Counts as" Plague Marines?

I'm working on an army with Plague Marines as the main troop choices, but I don't want to have to deal with putting together 21 metal marines, nor does the Plague Marine colour palette really mesh with the rest of my army. Is it frowned upon to use regular CSM and just call them Plague Marines?
An alternate idea would be to add something either to the base of perhaps a piece of interesting wargear to the CSMs to make them different.
Thoughts?

Is it the overall "bloated and rotted" appearance of Plague Marines that you feel doesn't fit with your army?
If not you could always use a bit of GS and pin vice,"Plague up" regular CSM and paint them in an appropriate color for your army.
Alternately, use WHFB zombie heads and paint Nurgle icons on the shoulder pads of standard CSM to make "Plague Marines."

You could use the FW upgrades, which end up the same price as the horribly metal ones GW has and infinitely cooler!
Or you could convert regular marines and paint them whatever colors you choose. Check out my blog about just this subject here.
Or... you could model something extra on them to represent their toughness. My buddy who plays Iron Warriors put storm shields on regular marines and cyborg parts to represent PMs.

I am wanting to go with a more blue and grey base for the army, and maybe not have the pus type motif. The zombie head idea is a good one, do you think if I made 1/3 to 1/2 of the marines have zombie or maybe even vampire style heads (do they make plastic vampires??) that I could avoid people grumbling at me?

I don't know if GW (or any other company) makes plastic vampire heads, but picking up enough plastic zombie heads shouldn't be difficult.
And with the appropriate icons/markings plus perhaps a bit of armour damage (drill a few holes and such in the CSM armour) I don't see why anyone would take issue with them representing Plague Marines.

Hmm...I do this. I got some 'unstripable' marines, so I plagued them up.
Drill holes in them, drape GS around them...Cut their feet into two pieces....Stuff like that. I just left the paint on them and painted it to represent grime.

Does GW still run bitz sales? I have tons of Iron Warrior shoulder pads that I bought at one point. If so, I could order a bunch of the Death Guard ones.
(Sorry for random questions, been away from the game for a while.)

Depending on the theme of your army, you could also make the unit full of bionics and look like a unit of cyborgs. Just a thought.
