So the first war of Armageddon. Chaos went in got their asses handed to them and left.
The Imperium covered it up by killing everyone who knew about it.
My question is doesn't anyone fighting in the 3rd war wonder why they are calling it the 3rd war for Armageddon when they can only find evidence for the 2nd one and not the 1st?

Maybe it's assumed the 1st war was started by orks as well. As to any witnesses, it might have been so long ago, no one would have been alive since then.
A hazy argument, but thats what I got.

Remember, this is a time line when people who can actually think are beaten and forced into submission. The vast majority of people are human cattle, doing what they are told generally becuase it is the only way they survive. If they are told the gravity pushes them from the surface of a planet instead of holding them down, 49/50 of them will no question it and accept it, while the 1 person will generally ignore it an fall in line.

For a good psycological mindframe of people in 40k, read 1984. It's a great book.

I wouldn't say that 40k citizens are 1984-ish. Sure, they have to follow the imperial creed, but most BL books depict the average citizen as having access to most of the things denied in 1984. The part about having to accept the word of the imperium as truth is more or less fitting, but really, it isn't as controlled or ordered as 1984 at all.

Not true. The people who can actually think are employed under THREAT of being beaten and forced into submission.
Scholars most assuredly still exist in the Imperium. And are definitely not at the bottom of the social ladder.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

I agree, the world of 40K is less 1984'ish and more like "The Emporers New Cloths" taken to an extreme, except where the little boy who spoke up is shot in the kneecaps burned to death while nailed upside-down on a cross and mounted on the Administratum building as a warning to the others. So you see it's far less draconian in that respect.

The middle party workers were really the only ones that were denied "fun" stuff. The lower class were to ignorant to be cared about and the upper-class were in charge and had sufficient skill in doublethink that the finer things in life didn't hurt the party. The book focuses on the oppression of the intelligent middle-class to continue the status quo.
When I read the book, it made me think about the Imperium, among other things lol. Either way, everyone should read the book.
