Do you take characteristic tests on modified or unmodified characteristics?

For example, a wolf lord charged my hive tyrant with lash whip and acid blood. He causes a wound and rolles a 5 for its initiative test. So I say: that's another wound for you."
An he says: "no, you take initiative tests on unmodified initiative and his initiative is 5." Who was right?

"As I looked into its dead black eyes, I saw the terrible sentience it had in place of a soul. Behind that was the steel will of its leader. Further still I could feel its primogenitor coldly assessing me from the void. And looking back from the furthest recesses of the alien's mind... I can only describe it as an immortal hunger. It is this we cannot kill."

P8 says nothing about ignoring modifiers.

In fact it mentions that a 6 is always a fail even with modifiers just to back that up.

In general you take characteristic tests on you stat AT THE TIME - so yes, that was a wound.

He is getting confused with Sweeping Advance, which does require unmodified initiative, however this is because it specifically states so.

Okay, thank you!

nosferatu1001 is indeed correct. It's what makes the Lash Whip and Acid Blood combo so potent.

The only time you are explicitly told to use unmodified characteristics is when you roll for Sweeping Advance, every other time you use the characteristic at whatever moment it is.
