Against Isengard:
Try to max out on riders of rohan and limit your foot troops, the cavalry can easily outmanoeuvre any uruk-hai footmen and when you get a charge in, the bonus is a great help. Use your foot troops to take out any pikes that might take out your precious cavalry.
Hope that helps.

When you have priority, choose to go second.
Take hornblowers & captains. The extra 1" of movement, and the ability to at-the-double, means your units will be able to get most of the way from one long end of the table to the other in a single move, leaving half his army with nothing to fight.
Maneuver! Don't just charge headlong into a wall of pikes, that is playing his game.
Shoot, shoot, and shoot some more. Shoot his pikes to death.
Take Radagast as an ally. Take Sauruman the White! Take Legolas. Take Erkenbrand, not Eowyn. In fact, never take Eowyn.

He's got a mind like a steel trap. By which I mean it can only hold one idea at a time;
it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

lol, I don't plan on taking Eowyn. Which is more usefull, Eored, royal guard riders, or Sons of Eorl? which is the more usefull lances, or 1+ str and terror for somewhat more points? and which is actually more dangerous to charge, their infantry, or pikemen. Pikemen may negate charge bonus, but pikemen have way less defence. and you can only charge once before being locked in combat.
One more thing, which do you think is more helpful Radagast or Saruman? Epic tranquility is nice, but the spells of ruin/dismay/command are also damn nice, way outway wilderness/command. But i feel scetchy taking Saruman as Rohan, two don't really click for me, and I like the feel of a pureblood rohan force. radagast seems to fit the theme better. any ways to incorporate saruman that make sence?

Sure, it makes perfect sense; Sauruman the White was ever the friend and ally of Rohan. I admit, I don't use him when I know I am facing an Isengard force. I think it violates causality, and the space-time continuum is battered enough.
Radagast, used well, is a great addition to an army. He grants Pathfinder, which means you can trot an Eored right through some difficult terrain that your opponent thought was protecting his flank. Birdsight and Nature's Wrath make a mean combination. You can clear an enemy out of that defensible terrain, before you go trotting through it.
In general I use vanilla Eored. It allows me to get more units on the table, and my epic heroes can move freely from formation to formation.
I have never bothered with the Sons of Eorl; they are very expensive and lack bows. A unit with lances is better.
If I field Theoden, I'll put him in 4 co. of knights, since the entire formation can use his fight. Otherwise, well, I just take vanilla Eored. Lots and lots of them.
Pikemen are by far the more dangerous to charge, frontally, since you end up giving away such a huge amount of dice. So don't do that! Always try to get combined charges in. I will wait a turn or two to set one up, and even sacrifice an Eored to the front in order to pin the enemy in place so I can hit his flank or rear.
Once you are charging the flank or rear, neither pikes nor shields is a factor.
Once I do have a good combined charge set up, that is when I call a heroic fight. Earthshaking charge is fine, but it only happens 1 in 6 times. Heroic fight pretty much guarantees that I will be charging & fighting again (most likely against a disordered enemy), and only very large units can survive that.
Stay out of combat with Thrydan Wolfsbane! He's like, all the benefits of pikes, with none of their disadvantages.
