In the Planetstrike book, it says that attacking units that can already Deep Strike may assault on the turn they enter play. However, riding in a Deep Striking Vehicle does not count as being able to Deep Strike for this purpose. However, the Mycetic Spore is not actually a Vehicle-it is a Monstrous Creature. So if Tyranids where the Attackers in a game of Planetstrike, and a creature (say, a Carnifex) entered play via a Mycetic Spore, would it be able to Assault on the turn it entered play?

I'm still convinced the Planetstrike rules were written by a fourth grader and copyedited by an idiot.

Since the spod is a MC, not a vehicle, and has nothing in its rules saying that units using it to deep strike treat it like a deep striking vehicle, yes, you should be able to assault on the turn you arrive from deep strike.

Thank you for making that clear. However, I don't see what is so dreadful about Planetstrike. It's probably my favourite expansion so far.

Anyway, my sincierest gribbly thanks to you!

I'm honestly not a fan of the rules for any of the expansions. If GW's core rules were incomplete and poorly proofed, the expansions are that much worse.

But now we're starting to veer off-topic, so I'll shut it.

Does the carnifex have deepstrike in it's normal entry? On page 13 in the planetstrike rule book it says in the shock tactics entry that units with DeepStrike in their entry may assault the turn they enter play. If it does not then it cannot assault the turn it comes into play. It also gives examples with marine units, one assault squad which can assault the turn it deepstrikes, and one tactical squad which cannot because they do not have the deepstrike rule in thier entry.

However the Mycetic Spore would be able to assault . . . but sadly it's impossible for it to be in assault on the turn it comes down.

I know it's more about fluff than rules but any expansion designed around planetary assaults which makes the Drop Pod a bad choice just doesn't seem to be a well written expansion. But maybe I'm biased.

KP makes a good point - one that I actually found myself last night, looking again at the Planetstrike book.

The carnifex does not have the Deep Strike special rule in its entry, therefore regardless of how it Deep Strikes, it cannot assault on the same turn. Same with anything coming in via spod that doesn't have the Deep Strike rule.

The spod can assault, however. Like Oshova said, too bad it can't actually make an assault move.

Actually, Lictors are pretty damn good in Planetstrike. Their Pheremone Trail helps guide other Deep Striking Nids.
