The full time librarian gig hasn't materialized the way I hoped it would, however I've been volunteering at my local library once a week as a computer assistant. I am also working part time in the evenings. I'm hoping my persistance in volunteering will pay off today because the local library has a part time shelving position available now, and I think the hours will be compatible with my other job.

The complete plan is to do this for a few months, and then get a full time circulation job here. Even though it's not a professional librarian job, it is a lot more money than I'm making now. Hopefully this is a step in the right direction.

As a library employee I wish you luck. Getting in is the important step. I started as a shelver part time and now work IT full time.
Being a library employee helped me greatly when the time came to bid for better jobs.
