Currently I have about 2550 points of Tau and am finishing up my tyranids. Next on my list will be a chapter of space marines (chapter undecided) Is the box set of black reach worth it for the marine figs or am I better off just buying what I need directly. I can set aside the orcs for the time being or sell them off. I guess my main question is are the marine figs worth the price of the box?

Well, I've never bought the box but a I traded a few SM bits from it. They look decent. They come with the set war gear and you'll need an extra tactical squad to make an army but on average I'd say, yes, it is great value for money

All the marine stuff on its own costs about £85, this is before orks and other bits. This comes at the cost of not having the extra bitz/war gear you'd normally get from these boxes.

Thats my thoughts on it

It depends, the models are have a specific wargear load out. ie what you see on the box is what you get
Also the terminators are less detailed than the $50 box set, and the same can be said with the dreadnaught.

The tac squad marines are too difficult to convert IMO unless you simply want to switch out the flamer for a plasma gun (which will still require some serious cutting).

The terminators on the other hand can easily be upgraded with any terminator bits you may acquire

Same goes for the dreadnaught, and the captain

In my humble opinion it's worth it, got it as a birthday present and I'm happy. Just finishing the Terminators and think they look pretty good. Plan to use most of the rest too, good value and even better if you can swap the Orks with someone

Definitely worth it. The figures you get are a bit basic as people have pointed out, however they are just a core of an army and you can flesh out with the more expensive ordinary figures, and do conversions.

What a lot of people do is get together with a friend who wants to do Orks, buy two boxes and swap the sprues.

You also get a rulebook and a full set of templates.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I wouldn't say it's worth it if you're going for Templars, what with all the bolters and stuff, but any other chapter would be fine IMO.

For thirteen years I had a dog with fur the darkest black. For thirteen years he was my friend, oh how I want him back.

Not a good deal for Blood Angels, assuming you'll want Assault Marines, but good for Smurfs/DA/Crimson Fists etc...

For any other chapter, including Space Wolves, a copy of AoBR plus a few sets of actual SW sprues should give you enough bits to customise what comes in AoBR.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

I think its a good idea, and trade the orks to someone else, or on dakkadakka.

well it is 90$.
I suggest buying it on Amazon. Not from gw. Amazon has it for 80$ or so.

Sure, just sell the Ork models afterwards. If you're smart and get the set on ebay, you can make money compared to what you'd pay via purchasing each model's set off of GW.

If it wasn't for ABOR I probably wouldn't have a SW army right now. All extra parts just came from the Wolf Boys box set. You just have to be willing to carve some plastic and maybe play a little with some Green Stuff.

ABOR Dreadnaught

ABOR Terminators and one ABOR tac marine coverted to Wolf Guard with combi flamer.

ABOR tac marine sarge and flamer converted to Grey Hunter and Blood Claw

ABOR Chapter Master converted to Wolf Lord.
