After a great start at the LA Bunker (check out approximately 10 billion photos here: GamesiPlay - Double Trouble Season II Opener ), the Double Trouble series is headed to fantastic store in San Diego

The Place: Game Empire
The Date: November 6th
The Time: Registration at 11am

Entrance is $10 per person, with trophies for the top team and gift certificates awarded to the top 4 finishers. Gift certificate will also be awarded for Best Painted Army (individual).

Returning players please note the point change - Armies are now 1250 per player (2500 per team)!

Tournament Rules

1. Force Composition: Each team consists of 2 players. Each player fields an army of up to 1250 points, chosen from a single codex (players on the same team may play armies from different codices). Daemon Hunter and Witch Hunter allies may be used normally. Note that teammates cannot "share" points - any unused points by either player are simply lost. Both teammates’ armies must meet Force Org Chart requirements and obey all restrictions.

2. Players only benefit from special rules or wargear in their own army. For example, Player A's units are unaffected by Player B's Chapter Tactics, even though they are on the same team. Likewise, Player B cannot use Player A's Teleport Homing Beacons. A good rule of thumb is that ally's units are only affected if enemy units are as well. Turns are taken as a team, with both players moving, shooting, assaulting, etc.

3. The latest FAQs (available from www.games-workshop.com) will be used. Any rule disputes will be resolved by an appointed judge. Judges' rulings are final.

4. Players must provide a clear, written copy of their army list (including point values) which may be inspected at any time by judges or opponents.

Tournament Structure

Deployment: Deployment Type for each round will be "Pitched Battle." Follow all rules for that deployment type as described in the 40K rulebook.
Mission: A different mission will be played each round. All missions will be objective and/or kill point based.

Each game will last for a maximum of 2hrs 20min (140 minutes), or 5-7 turns - determined as per the standard missions in the 40k rulebook (turn 6 on a 3+, turn 7 on a 4+)

At the end of each round, teams will be required to rate their opponents' sportsmanship score on a scale of 1-5. This score should reflect the opponents' attitude, organization, and sense of fair play.

Each team will play a total of 3 rounds, with final ranking determined first by record, with ties being decided first by Tournament Points earned, and then by Points Allowed.

Thanks for looking, and we hope to see you there

My friend and I played in this at Game Empire last November and had an awesome time. Unfortunately, Nov. 6th is my wife's birthday, otherwise I'd be there again.

Good times...

So your wife doesn't want to go to a 40K tournament for her birthday?

Only if I want a divorce... My gaming partner from last year saw the flyer up at GE and asked me the same question. I responded with the same answer of, "Only if I want a divorce."

His response, "Well, I'll pencil you in as a "Maybe" then."

A few questions:
1.Do you guys think 2 hours is enough time for 2500 pts of models on the table? 'Ard boyz had 2.5 for that much
2.How many total spots do you have?
3.Does Painting affect whether you're a "top finisher"?
4.Is it straight win-loss or are there varying degrees?
5.If I can't drag anyone else down there with me (I live in Bay Area) would I still be able to participate?

Thanks!

4000 pts, 4000pts, 4000pts, 2000pts,
1500pts, (daemons)2000pts, 4500pts, 3170pts, 1500pts, 2500pts, 1850pts

Heya fuegan,

1. I agree, two hours is pretty tight. I didn't want to promise anything, but one of our guys spoke with Cliff (owner - GE SD) just an hour ago about extending the rounds an extra 20min and he's all for it. This is good news, as it will mean more games making it into those crucial late turns. I'm going to update the OP in a sec.

2. The last Double Trouble at Game Empire drew 16 teams (32 players) and there were still open tables, so I'd say 20 teams is possible - GE has a huge gaming area. Brian (GiP guy) is going to get the exact # of spots tomorrow. I'll update the thread ofc

3. Painting has no effect on tournament ranking. We encourage painted armies (with a prize for best painted!), but it does not affect the outcome of the event.

4. Each round you will get a straight W/L/D, and tournament ranking is based primarily on your team's record. That said, "total tournament points earned" is the first tie breaker and "points allowed" is the second, so all those objectives and kill points definitely matter.

5. You would need a team mate. Of course it's likely other players will find themselves in the same position...at most events we have at least a team or two formed from single players hoping to find a partner that morning. Obviously I'd never tell someone to charge down from the Bay Area just *hoping* to play in a 40K event, but maybe you could get something coordinated here on Dakka, on Game Empire's forums, or on GamesIPlay.net

Nice. Yeah, I thought you guys might like the time-limit change. It's not easy finding a balance between "these rounds are too fast" and "sweet jeebus, when will this tourny end.." but we're getting there.

My partner bailed on me. I am capable of fielding either Vanilla Marines or Space Puppies if anyone is looking for a partner.

Terrible rules-writing no doubt, but given that you basically can't play it RAW in any kind of sensible way lets you know that it can't be right.

What a great event. Interesting synergies created between the different teamed armies.
Bartchy and I played IG/Ork.
IG: Lord Commisar, PCS in Chimera, Platton 1 (meltas) in Chimera, Platoon 2 (plasma) in Chimera, Platoon 3 (grenade launcher) in Chimera, Vanquisher, Executioner, Manticore.
Orks (me): PK Warboss + 18 boyz (PK nob) + Battlewagon (deffrolla), 4x Trukk Boyz (PK Nob), 15 Stormboyz (PK Nob).
Do you kill the tanks dropping steel every turn, or the mobs of Orks who just made a flat out suicide charge turn 1 (freeing the platons to take objectives while your tied up in your own deployment zone)?
Worked pretty well...we went 2-0-1 with 40 points for 2nd place.

Life isn't fair. But wouldn't it be worse if Life were fair, and all of the really terrible things that happen to us were because we deserved them?

Thanks to everyone that participated, and congrats to all our winners. We had a great time and I got to see some amazing armies. Top 4 were:

1. Dave & Buster - CSM/CSM

2. Shoota Boyz - Orks/IG

3. Difficult and Dangerous - Tyranids/Orks (and wicked hats)

4. Seven - CSM/Daemons (all Papa Nurgle style)

We'll have pics and full results up soon. Thanks again to Cliff and Game Empire as well - just a first rate store all the way.
