No they don't. The Monolith keeps it's lovely AV 14 against lances.

Not that I'm doubting you, but I find myself doubting what you just said.
Proof please?
Living metal just prevents additional dice from being rolled.

Living metal just prevents additional dice from being rolled.
And it prevents the AV from being reduced by weapons such as lance weapons. Re-read the Living Metal entry.

Unfortunatley I don't see our local necron player until next tuesday, so that's rather un-doable atm. Although he apparently doesn't realize this, because my zoanthropes have popped his monos a few times in which i suppose they shouldn't...

Zoanthropes have S10, so they pen on a 5+. They also get +1 to their penetration table rolls so even if they glance (a 4) they would still stand a good chance at blowing something up on that Lith. My Thropes have been the bane of my friend's necron army, simply cuz their weapons are basically an all-purpose railgun and can fire as a MEQ killer as well.
Back on topic: Monoliths are basically huge, implacable, moving fortresses. Just about the onyl special penetration rule that works on it is AP1 weaponry. This is why you should probably ignore it and go for the main necrons, since forcing a Phase out on them is infinitely easier to do than plunking a Lith. That or take as many S10 AP1 guns you ahve, and pray to whatever god your army worships for good dice rolls.

true... thanks guys... i thought not =3
anyway... the only way i was able of taking out a monolith was with a 10 man firedragon squad with a farseer nearby, guide and doom and pray to god...
but yes... my eldar army is a hit at our group of gamers and ive only been beaten once...
just a rule inquiry.

In my experience, shooting the monolith with 2 prisms is usually a waste of time as it's one shot that still only penetrates on a 5+. Versus Necrons, it's best to use the 6/3 plate. The best way for Eldar to deal with the monolith is to ignore it or, as mentioned above, hit it with a gang of FD with tank hunters.

Other fun things that take out liths. Eldar wraithguard and their stupid pen don't care what armor you have on a 5+, tau haywire grenades, ( could be some other name) but they do similar results as the the wraithguard. IG, manticore, deathstrike missle launcher, and 1 lasscannon. First shot of one game, opponent rolled a 6 to hit, a six to pen, a 6 to dmg, and a 6 explosion radius.... unlikely as hell but it happens.....considering it was only lith I had and a full warrior squad and lord were waiting for turn two to try to come in... 800 pts to a very lucky ig guardsman with a lascannon.... ouch

However, just to refresh my memory, does Rending work on a monolith?

Rending has you roll extra dice. Living Metal states that under only one condition may you roll extra dice, and that's ordnance rolling two and picking the highest.
So you may not rend a Monolith.

One of my games against a Necron player, he had 2 liths blocking LOS to a unit of destroyers. I dropped a demolisher cannon pieplate on the first monolith. Rolled a 'hit' on the scatter die, a 5 and 6 on the ordnance roll taking highest for a pen hit and then a 6 on the damage roll. Monolith explodes, and takes out 1 destroyer as well. Opened LOS to the rest of the destroyers where I was able to take out 4 more and destroy one whole unit! This was on the first turn too!
