Ok, so I have been searching the internet for Daemon Princes for a while now. They all look great! And that is part of the problem...They all look the same! Sure, there are new ones comming out and all, but there you go, as soon as those are populer, those will be everywhere too. I like to be original. Unique! I know that's not always a good thing, something could be unique and still look like crap...so anyway... I decided to make my own Daemon Prince. I thought about making it from scratch. You know, build it from the ground up. But that's a lot of work, I know. I have a mostly finished Bloodthirster Daemon that I built from scratch. (shown Here)

I'll get around to finishing it soon enough, but that is for a different thread.

So, scratch built is out, or at least not in my top 5 list. Then there is the problem of money. If I buy a DP model, and convert it, it will look good, I'm sure, and be somewhat original...but I don't have a whole lot of moolah to spend on hobbies...I'm married. So, let's look around at what I already have at home and see what I can come up with. Not much. It still seemed to be comming around to scratch built being the best idae. Then one day I'm looking through a bitz box I hadn't seen in a while, and lo and behold! An old style Hive Tyrant that was missing parts! Perfect!

This is a photo after a bath in Simple Green. I forgot to get a before shot. Anyway, not shown here is the head, I plan on using it, but it's too big as is.

Here are some MS Paint mock-ups to show what my plans are...

The red lines are what I want to remove, the black lines show what I want to add.

So, there is my plan, I have started on it, but it's far from finished. I'll post more pics tomorrow to show how it's coming along.

C&C welcome!

Ok, so I'm not good at taking pictures in progress, I tend to get a lot done before I think about taking a picture. This is the progess to date for my Daemon Prince.

You may recognize the head of the Hive Tyrant. I don't know if they still use the same head on them as they did a decade ago, but it was too big,
so I had to saw off a pretty big chunk and then Green Stuff it back on a bit higher to make it look like the spine is connected to the head instead of jutting out over it.

I added what I hope looks like pieces of "Marine" style armour on the chest, and upper legs, and I am currently working on the arms.

I think the wings are turning out quite well, not sure how to go about filling in the rest of the wings, but I usually just 'wing' it anyway , so we'll see.
It might be a while before I get around to working on this bad boy again, as I am currently obsessed with my Genestealer/Bloodletter conversion!
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/322020.page
But at least let me know what you think so far. I might need your suggestions on how to procede with the wings!

Thanks!
(Edit: I changed the phots to be more of a close-up)

Ok, so I havn't done a whole lot to this guy, but here is what I have so far. I added the other upper arm, and started to bulk out the "Power Fist" hand, and I carved out a sword...please be honest, is the sword too big? I cut down the first sword I made for him a LOT, but I think it's still a bit big, just not sure how to make it smaller, and still look good. So, C&C please, and let me know what you think and how I can make the sword fit better, I'm a bit stuck on this area.

I figure, if I can't just shave it down some, I'll have to start over and maybe save this sword for a future Great Unclean One, so something...

i like your model, although my heart is grieving inseeing a hive tyrant converted to a demon...need one but don´t have the "spare" money...

well i would suggest makeing the hilt a little less thick...
the blade is simply classy, don´t change a thing!
wish you all the luck with that beasty^^

Victor, don't get too upset, it's a very old model, I don't even know what the current version of the Tyrant looks like. And as for spare money, I bought this a long time ago when I was single and had spare money. Ahhhh, the good old days! Hahahaha, don't tell the wife I said that! And as for the sword, I was just looking through the Chaos Daemons Codex (hadn't done that yet), and I think this sword will work well with a Soul Grinder! As soon as I make one that is. I will most likely just make a smaller but similar sword for this guy...maybe one that isn't 1 1/2 times bigger than the model holding it.
Thanks for your comments!

I'll try to post more in a month or so...after Hunting Season!

well the swordlength isn´t against me^^ to bash someone good you need a long stick and a pointy at that^^
it´s just the hilt thats a bit thick, but i guess when you model the hands like big enough the it should fit all in all...

one of these days i should work with gs as waht i´ve seen what can be achieved by working with it...

good work mate^^

Thanks for the input. I'll see what I can come up with in a (Slightly) shorter but much thinner model of sword. I was a bit worried about the thickness of the handle, but it looked fine as I was making it...next time I'll actually have the model in front of me while I'm making the sword.

i specialy like the blade, looks like a "flamberge" blade, an old version of a soldier of fortune sword (?)...
will you add fire like in a balrog version of a sword ? that would look cool.as i´ve seen you just have to add small amounts of gs on the pointy parts of the sword and pulll at them when a bit cured so do create tat individual look f fire...^^

good night mate

that looks awesome, makes me wish i had some spare parts to convert haha! :')
Maybe if you carve a chaos star or something into the armour at the chest or and eye or something that'd look cool. Good idea for using the 'nid body btw

That's a good idea for the fire...I'll see if I can pull it off! Sounds a bit out of my league, but you never know until you try!

The star or eye is a great idea!(I don't know which would look better...) I hadn't even thought about what to put on there yet! I know I want to put a chaosy edge on the armour and rivets of course! , but I haven't started on it yet. Thanks!

My CSM's are World Eaters, but I want to start a Chaos Daemon Khorne Army, so I might just stick with the Star on the chest, and some Khorne symbols on Shoulder pads and other places. Yeah, the sword is still a WIP, I'm going to put some GS on the handle to make it look (hopefully) like wrapped leather.

Fantastic thread, and its great to see someone else that likes to source chaos bitz from chopped 'nid models. Huge fan of it myself, there are haters out there but don't let em sweat yah!

I feel like the sword you've got planned now is just way too big. Doesn't look proportional to the rest of the model....which isn't odd. Its too easy and tempting to go snake gak on building weapons......

I call this gear set up "Heresy".

@ agroszkiewicz: nice model! Yeah, some nid stuff just seems to scream Chaos! Cant wait to see that painted up.

@ Renbags: Not much I'm afraid, except that I ripped the sword off of the model, it was just lightly glued anyway. I am going to use the sword for the Soul Grinder portion of my cratch-built Soul Grinder/Defiler I'm also working on.

And for this guy, I'm thinking of making a nice big Khorne Axe.

But it will have to wait, I'm currently working on my Genestealer/Bloodletter Conversions!

Thanks for the comments guys! Check back in the coming months, and hopefully I'll have some progress!

The more I work with and paint 'nid parts, the more I like them. Chaos is a personal style choice for me, not made because the models are any more amazing than the 'nid stuff.

I always love seeing folks build big bugs or anything made out of big bug parts!

@ agroszkiewicz: Yeah, I just checked out your Blog, that's a HUGE project! A little less tedious I would assume than mine, as all of my sculpts are going to be very similar, where as yours is a completely interchageable mega-model! Good luck!

Thanks man. I've really learned alot about the underlying dynamics of posing models through the project. I'm really limited in what I can do with GS and magnets, but I sword I'd finish this project without pinning a damn thing.

Well, the recent posts on this thread actually lit a fire under my butt, and I picked up this model and got some work done, unfortunately, I can't find the camera, the wife or kid mis-placed it, hopefull find it soon. Anyway, I'll run through the progress, and illistrate it with pics later. I GS'd some large fangs between the chestplate and crotch area where the cables would normally go, and then attached a plastic tube for the right hand to be the handle for the axe, also started on the Chainaxe Head. Oh, and I did the thumb on the left hand...I was going to work on the whole left hand, but my fingers kept getting in the way, so one finger at a time I guess will have to do. I will try to get some pics up tonight or tomorrow morning if I can find the camera.

Have a good weekend all!
