Hi all,

I used to play 2nd edition a long time ago and recently got back into 40k. I've played a few games at a local group and a lot of people seem to have Mek Orks or Tyranids. I play Vanilla SM and am having trouble against the Mek Ork lists, especially as he uses Kustom Force Fields and a Battlewagon with a Deff-Rolla.

In the last game he had 1 Battlewagon full of Nobs, a Big Mek with KFF and another IC who had a poison gun. He then had 2 squadrons of 3 Killa-Kans, a Deff-Dread, 3 Koptas and then 3 squads of Boys, 2 in Trukks. My army was a LR Redeemer with CC Termis and a Term Lib, 1 Ironclad in DP, 2 Standard Dread in DP, 1 Rifle Dread, 3 MM/HF LS and 2 tac squads in rhinos, plus a Master of the Forge. I've already had some advice to maybe change the MM on the dreads, and I'll probably change the Term Lib to a Term Chap perhaps. The Speeders didn't seem to do much either, so maybe I'll swap 1 or 2 of them out.

Are the termies assault terminators? If so give them SS/TH and stick a Terminator Chaplain in there. 4+ inv saves, and the chaplains re roll ability makes them super tough to kill.

If you plan on shooting the Orks, you need target saturation to get around the KFF. Remember that on average, half your shots will be ignored when under the KFF. So keep that in mind when being a shooty SM. Or you can just ignore the KFF all together and get into assault. SM do really well against Orks in CC if they assault first. Thats where my boyz fail, if they dont kill everything during the assault, then they start to suck, because its much harder to hurt SM when your only S3 and with less attacks.

Id say get the standard dreds to the BW with the super unit inside it. If you blow that BW, then the super unit loses its speed. Then you can ID pretty much everything inside.

Im not a SM player so others probably have bette rideas on how to deal with Orks, Im thinking like an Ork so it might not mesh well

Your best bet for killing the Battlewagon will probably be to Deep Strike 2 Dreadnoughts with Assault Cannons behind the Battlewagon. S6 rending should be more than enough against AV10, even with the KFF. Once the Nobz are out of the Battlewagon, they are vulnerable. I find a Vindicator perfect for the role of instant killing a unit of Nobz. Marines in Rhinos can go after the Boyz in trucks while the Redeemer and Terminators take out the Kans. I definitely agree with KingCracker about the Terminators: SS/TH with Chaplain is the way to go.
