I have decided to take a warplighting cannon in my ever growing skaven army but am not very keen on the current model. I have never been a fan of metal models, especially big ones.

I have two ideas in mind at the moment.

The first is to combine the empire hellblaster volley gun and the great cannon. Im going to try and make it look like a pimped up skaven cannon with the crew loading warp-stone cannon balls instead of the boring empire iron ones
I know the wlc is more of a zappy kinda weapon in skaven fluff an all, but i think that it wouldn't be far from what the skaven would do with an empire salvaged cannon.

The second is to use the empire steamtank with a warlock engineer driving.

I am rather stuck on which models to use as crew, and driver.

All comments and ideas are welcome.

Metal models are a pain in the ass. But the Warp Lightning Cannon looks easy enough as a conversion, If you can get your hands on some cheap thin piping (or just some brass tubes around a quarter inch diameter and half inch diameter and some washers that would fit on them), two plastic balls with some plasticard binding around them, and an Ork Boar chariot (for the actual platform for it to ride on) you can prettymuch duplicate the metal model with very little effort.

As for the crew and driver, a simple clanrat would work as the crewman, as the current one seems to be some sort of slave. For the Driver, take a Clanrat with a helmet, get some bitz from 40k that looks like a bionic eye (a targeter, small light, or something of a similar bitz) and glue it into the head to make the engineering look. There should also be some 40k bitz that would resemble the backpack on the Driver (probably a Battle Cannon shell with the tip sawed off).

Hmm. Good idea but i am kinda set on a kinda conventional cannon thing, with a loading crew. Just dont know how to make em. What you think of using the empire crew from the cannon to load and have a pack master whipping them? Could even throw in the warlock engineer in to fire the thing. " stupid manthings would just mess it up"

if you combined the two parts of the Helblaster Volley gun and the Great Cannon, it'll probably look like some sort of automatic-loading cannon. On the other hand, you can make the Empire crew into slaves and that would give the whole model a dash of irony: the humans forced to use their own weapon to kill their own.

I think using the empire crew is probably the best bet as its going to be hard finding a skaven model that looks like it is loading a cannon ball.

As for the hell blaster, i am thinking of sicking the cannon barrel to the front of the HB and using green stuff to make pipes from the HB barrels onto the larger cannon barrel.

Why not turret the rocket rack of the hellstorm rocket battery just behind the top turret pointing foward and change the tips of the rockets into bits of warpstone.
Then you will have warp rockets as well
