I have a few ork units from 2nd ed. and am not sure what units are compatible with the 5th edition rules. I am sure I have the names right with the pictures. I've been searching online in different forums, and am having a particularly hard time finding out whether or not the minders still work. I used dakkadakkas forum search, and came up short, unless I missed a threads like this. Any help would be much appreciated.
Here is a link to a wiki I have made to upload my warhammer pics, and possibly do a timeline of my painting and whatnot.

Nothing stopping you from using old models. Just make sure your opponent knows what they're meant to be if they look a little different (like, use old Goffs from the 2nd edition boxed set as slugga boyz).

Firstly welcome to Dakka.
Secondly, dakka has a gallery to which you have uploaded your images and embedded them here, but that's not here and now.
Onto the compatible:
Ghazkul = Ghaz in modern 40k, but be sure to tell your opponent as most people would not know it. If you are unsure, just use him as a warboss.
zodgrod wortsnagga = This model would eaily pass for a Big Mek, Mekboy or runthered, just remember to declare it to your opponent.
Warphead = Warhead
Freebooters = Looks like nobs to me
Gretchin = Gretchin no problems there
Kommandos = Look like Kommandos, but as always with old models, just declare them to your opponent what they are.
Mekeniaks = Mekboyz
Minders = I dont know what they are, but they look like boyz maybe
Ork Boys = Ork Boys
Runtherd = Runtherd (herds gretchen)
Shokk attack gun = Big Mek Shokk attack gun
Snakebite Nobs = Nobs but remember to declare as they could be mistaken for regular boyz
Boarboy = count as for biker boyz
Warphead = Warphead
Wartrak scorcher = Wartrak scorcher
Dreadnought =Dreadnought
Thats just how I see it and how I would play with them but I can't stress enough when using old models to tell the opponent whats what ans ask them if they aren't sure whats what.

On the minders-- they're like runt'erds, but for squigs and snotlings.

Its strange how they go as far as attack squig and bomb squigs but no squig mob. Its in the fluff and the models exist in WHF, so what's the issue?

Thanks for the greeting, and thanks even more for the swift response. Your comparative list is really helpful. I may upload my pics to dakkadakka now Yeah, this minders are really throwing me off as to what to do with them. They do bear the mark of the bad moons too. Oh, also in addition I have a pile of plastic goffs and plasic gretchin unpainted. Say, 25 of each. Do you guys have any recommendations for an army build? I am quite new to warhammer, tho my bud is a bit (he's imperial guard tho, knows little about orks), and got this pile of units for a great price. Lookin to get into the hobby.

Always good to see new people on the site and the hobby in general.
From what I see here, a horde/foot slogging army is in ork with that many boyz and gretchen on the ground with nobs, Warphead and Warboss its a solid start.
Do you have a codex?
If so start totalling up the points of what you have and start with a 1000pts list with the minimum 1 HQ and 2 Troops and build from there.

Minders were the escorts for the Weirdboyz, not squig herders. There was even a sculpt of two Minders holding a Weirdboy like a cannon lol!

I have a 2nd edition codex. I'm gonna have to buy the 5th edition too, am I right? To get the current unit values, and to show new units and whatnot. Also, I need to get around to buying some bits. Arms and weapons in particular. I have some, but not enough. I spoke to a guy, says he sells bits at good price. If Internet bits are cheaper I'll go that route.

You'll need a new codex, the rules have changed about as radically from 2nd to 3-4th as they did from 1st to 2nd (1st had random rolls for equipment and even squad sizes IIRC, orks used bolters, etc.), although editions 3-5 are all pretty similar. Even with the changes, ALL models are compatible with 5th edition even strictly following the Rules As Written, because of the 'counts as' rule. If a model is armed with a weapon for which there is no modern equivalent, you count the old gun as something that is in the new codex. Specific units might need to be made as a new type of unit, and you might use different sizes, but the models themselves should all be useable. You might want to change weapon setups, say if you want to add choppas or power klaws, but you don't have to replace all of your old weapons with new ones to be legal.
You want to be very clear about what is counting as what, and it's both against RAW and discourteous to do it in a deliberately unclear way, but old models are 100% legal under the rules, and I've never seen anyone but TFG or "I want to argue on the internet" object to old models, most people think they're interesting.

I didn't even know they were older models until I got home, and had a hard time identifying units online. I ended goig into a local games workshop and asking what they were. They didn't really go into depth, but it gave me a starting point into my search. I found a 2nd Ed codex in another hobby store. I like the idea of having an older army. A little more unique. Once I get a 5th edition rulebook, I'll get a better idea of how to build my units
