Just picked up and read the 'Nid codex and im still having trouble putting together a decent army together. This army is coming into creation after my Tau army and i wanted to pull a complete 180 from the Greater Good's shooting everything to death, to literally eating everything in CC. Not pure CC mind you (Tau wasn't pure long range), just the bulk of it.

Currently building a Small list using just a Hive Tyrant and the battle-force (all I've purchased, aside from the codex). I am COMPLETELY lost on what biomorphs to give what. the only thing i know for certain is the first game i will play will be 750 pts work of Vanilla Tactical Marine squads in Rhinos.

(all "basic" with the bare minimum biomorphs to field them)

HQ
Hive Tyrant (Talons, Whip, bone SW) and Old Adversary 195 pts

Troops
3 tyranid Warriors (talons) 120pts

8 Genestealers 112 pts

16 T.Gants (fleshborer) 80pts

16 H.Gants (talons) 96pts

3 Ripper Swarms 30 pts

Total 633 pts

For expanding:

Shear number of MCs avaiable have me confused on what to pick up for dedicated anti-armor and what to feild to suppliment the crazy number of stealers and gaunts i would like to put into play. Also tempted to give the Parasite of Mortex a try, and tempted to go for the swarmlord instead of a CC Hive Tyrant
The goal list is 1750, and i know ill need a sturdy core of Genestealers and H.Gaunts. I'm not sure of the Swarm-Lord is worth it at this number of points or a Tyranofex. Or what precicly to back up the core of my forces, is a Horde 'Nid army even viable with the current competition? (have a lot of Wolves, B Templars, BA, and Eldar)

Parasite is good at most points levels, but rough at Kill points missions as the Ripper bases are points. Swarmlord is a rough call at 1750, as your need Tyrant Guard to make him good.

Tervigons are always good, very versatile army support units. They also support Termagant swarms well.

So far you have Parasite+Gargoyles (best format) Genestealers Tervigons and Termagants.

Now you need Hiveguard/Zoanthrops to pop vehicles. ve Guard more Reliable but can't kill Land Raiders. You can also Consider Dakkafexes to pin and stun stuff, Trygons to accentuate Outflanking Genestealer distractions, Harpies to stun vehicles and kill small squads...

I would build a list using what you think is awesome, then let us critique it from there.

Started wargaming with heroscape. Who says kids can't be generals?
