So twice at two different tournament locations, my friend was told he couldn't claim an objective because his troop unit was beneath 50 percent. We have scoured the rulebook, but we cannot find that rule. Is this just local tournament rules at two different places, or is that RAW?

90% sure it's a local rule.

id take a look at the scoring section in the mission area of the brb...there it indicates that there is no unit size requirement for claiming an objective, however it can only be a troop selection. but it sounds more like you got busted with off beat TO's. then there is also the possibility it might have been stated that your unit had to be above 50% for the missions

Thats has to be one of the dumbest rules ever! Well not as bad as some other rules I have heard. Like Evil ALWAYS Goes first!

Units didn't count as scoring if they were below 50% strength.

Is that a special rule that the tournament organizers set or were they trapped in a time warp and still think that it's 4th edition?

Was this written in the tournament scenarios or just fellow players imagining things? Far as the main rulebook goes it's a 4th edition rule, though still around in some scenario books like Cities of Death.

not written in tournament rules...but organizers came over and scanned the board and just said "oh you can't claim objective if less than 50 percent"...must be timewarp

God! I do wish that TOs would keep up to date with the rules. It really annoys me when TOs use outdated or just plain wrong rules. If you want to set up a tournament, then at least make sure you know the current set of rules.
