Hiya Folks

Just curious about jetbikes and what size bases they use. Is it the large flying bases (seems too big) or the small flying bases. This has ramifications on unit coherency for a start. Thanks!

Whatever one came in the box is the RaW answer.

I'll let others chip in with their recommendations however. (I don't have any poncy Jetbikes, I fight on the ground like Russ intended! )

Gwar is correct. Whatever base it came with is the base you have to use.

Several models (Eldar Jetbikes) have come with different sized bases in their boxes over the years, so you'll see different ones in play depending on when you bought them. (In fact, my squad has mixed base sizes )

If you're scratch building a jetbike, use whichever flying base you want, I think they've all been used at some point.

Eldar Jetbikes originally came with the hex base. Vypers of the same era came with the small round base.

Now, everything comes with the large round base.

In between those, I think things started all using the small round base, but I'm not sure of that one.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

i personally go with what the latest base is. Now de jetbikes are sold on the small bases? ok so my jetbikes get the small bases. Now my old termies have the 40mm bases... etc etc. I think base size is important and the latest base should be the correct base.

Well, that works for DE jetbikes, eldar jetbikes still come with the large flying base.

I've bought a lot of Necron destroyers second hand, and i'm waiting on new bases to be delivered for them - would it be ok to field these with no bases? They balance pretty well on the flat surface.

no, simply because you cannot measure to/from a base you do not have(but you can cut out a piece of paper or cardboard the correct size and place that underneath them).

It will also screw with LOS since they are not of an appropriate height.

All that said in a friendly game and with opponent's consent: go nuts!

You do have options for height... people do it all the time with skimmers ... do I need the 'tall base' or the 'short base' coz there's about a 1" difference...

yes, but RAW your options for flight are dictated by the diameter of the Flying base supplied.

You cannot, for example, put your gun drones on the 1" tall short Skimmer Stick"

While you do wave an option between the Short or tall sticks supplied with your base, you are stuck with the Base your model comes on(or larger with opponent's consent; but then that gets extra weird with the different height sticks on different diameter bases)

Needless to say resting on a piece of paper or cardboard is definitely not going to be as tall as placed on any stick.

Just to throw a spanner in the works here.

What if you lose the base? Then no matter what you are not using the base that it came with

That is exactly why i no longer field my Land Speeder Tornado; I lost the original base.

3 of my Wives Ork Warbikers don't even have bases; because they never came with any. Shooting and assault is awesome with them; sure they cannot fire; but then they cannot be fired at, and they cannot assault nor be assaulted. Pretty much they get pklaced on the table, never move, cannot die (excepting incidental templates), and therefore never give op a kill point, and cannot be removed from contesting an objective.

Disclaimer; I really do not have the above described bases, but we treat the Warbikers exactly like any of the others in their unit, I just made all the rest up(all though it is RAW) for facetious effect. P.s: I really do not Play my Tornado, and only because i do not have a base.
