Doom support is required. That's how eldar work, with integrated support. Even without a
Doomed target,
DAs do well enough; consider BladeStorming, assaulting, Defend and Doom. It's pricey, but will whup any
MEq unit.

Well, in my personal experience, nearly two years of eldar, is the
PW/
SS is just fine. The DireSword is the worst of the 3 options
IMHO, and I cannot recall any other eldar players using one ... in 6 years of playing
40k.
I only see the DireSword's usefulness when you can tailor your list to beat Nids or Crisis Suits, or a nob heavy green-crew. But against bugs, even Doom won't help too much against those high Toughness
MCs.
